Job Purpose

An excellent opportunity for Cell Processing Technician a to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles.  The company’s customers include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems.  The position is based in the Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and is a job that can truly impact people across the globe.

 

The Li-ion Cell Processing Technician works within the Cell Engineering team to inspect, test and process Li-ion cells to be used in the production of bespoke products for the space industry, and new cell types for use in both terrestrial and space applications.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role is responsible for the processing of Li-ion cells for internal and external projects. The tasks include:

  • Delivery checks and physical storage of new cell batches
  • Electrical screening of new cell batches
  • Visual inspection of cells
  • Preparation of cells allocated to project build.  This entails selection of cells from the sore, wrapping in insulating tape, charging and laying out cells ready for manufacturing
  • Completing facility checks to a defined process
  • Destructive parts analysis on allocated cells
  • Support to vibration testing at cell level
  • Upkeep of Cell Processing areas
  • Completion of documentation

Qualifications

No specific requirement, but good level of literacy and numeracy required.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Practical engineering experience
  • Basic use of hand tools
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment, e.g. multi-meters
  • Basic skills with MS Office / Office 365 suite of programmes

  • Attention to detail and a ‘right-first-time’ attitude
  • The ability to execute critical, repetitive tasks accurately every time
  • An ability to work in a multi-project environment; to effectively prioritise and work to detailed scheduled plans and tight deadlines
