Job Description: 

An excellent opportunity for a Junior Project Engineer to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles.  The company’s customer’s include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems.  The position is based in the Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and is a job that can truly impact people across the globe.

Summary

The CABC Project Engineer is responsible for the technical assessment of customer requirements and identifying compliant EnerSys ABSL product solutions, or development activities.  The CABC project engineer provides technical assessment, analysis, data review and technical documentation for the specified project, and provides technical assistance to customers in conjunction with Sales Team colleagues.  
The CABC Project engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team, to ensure on-time and on-quality delivery of documentations, statements of compliance and technical briefings to the customer. 
The candidate will have a STEM background, and a keen interest in working on space projects. The candidate will have experience working as a technically responsible engineer and will be expected to travel globally to customer sites and related events as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    Responsible for the detailed project design to include developing battery solutions for a given space application & translating requirements to EnerSys ABSL product lines/development activities
•    Writing technical volumes that form part of a wider proposal.
•    Working with wider engineering team colleagues to solve complex engineering challenges that enable the progression of opportunities into EnerSys ABSL
•    Specification of battery components e.g. heaters
•    Generation and completion of statements of compliance
•    Producing reports and presentations for progression of opportunities through the proposal gate process
•    Verification of project hardware from test data, and correlation to predicted performance.
•    Produce project documentation such as analysis reports, battery user manuals, test plans, and test reports.
•    Contribution to project handover from the bid team to operations/delivery teams
•    Communication on technical matters to customers
•    Support proposals by providing technical inputs.
•    Support inputs to technical papers and presentations
•    Supports department level process management documentation.
•    Supports continuous improvement in the department.

Qualifications

  •  A degree in STEM subject, or equivalent qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Required
•    Experience as an engineer in a customer facing role
•    Good level of IT skills for data analysis, modelling, results presentation, and reporting
•    Experience with test and verification activities
•    Experience in report writing.

Desirable
•    Experience working with space industry primes, agencies, and end users.
•    Experience in some of the following areas:
o    Mechanical design and analysis
o    Thermal design and analysis
o    Li-ion battery performance
o    Reliability and failure modes
o    Vibration/shock testing
•    Knowledge and understanding of ECSS standards.
 

Skills and Competencies

•    Attention to detail and an ability to examine and present data clearly.
•    A strong understanding of product verification & requirement management, including experience with test and verification activities and reporting.
•    An ability to work in a multi-project environment; to effectively prioritise and work to detailed scheduled plans and tight deadlines.
•    Core skills relating to battery design: Cell and battery electrical performance; Battery safety requirements; Mechanical and thermal design and analysis; Basic electrical analysis.
•    An enthusiasm for problem-solving and delivering solutions.
•    Be able to effectively prioritise and work to detailed scheduled plans and to tight deadlines.
•    Business minded, and process driven.  
•    Innovative thinker and pragmatic problem solver. Works well in a fluid situation and under pressure
•    Strong skills with MS Office / Office 365 suite of programmes
•    Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
