An excellent opportunity for a Manufacturing Technician to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company’s customer’s include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems. The position is based in the Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and is a job that can truly impact people across the globe
Summary
A mechanically adept manufacturing and assembly technician who will complete all mechanical elements of space battery builds to specific instruction and process
Duties and Responsiblities
Ensuring the Health & Safety of everyone within area of responsibility at all times, including adherence to risk and COSHH assessments, safety protocol adherence and ensuring relevant PPE is used.
Accountable for ensuring the safety products and hardware, including ensuring relevant safety measure adherence
Accountable for complying with company policies
Responsible for complying with company and department performance process
Responsible for complying with cleanroom processes
Accountable for the completion of all training provided by the company including cross training within other departments
Accountable for set up and use of equipment in preparation for assembly tasks execution
Accountable for the completion of all manufacturing documentation during the manufacturing process
Accountable for all manufacturing mechanical tasks including, but not limited to, spotwelding, pull testing, mechanical assembly, application of Kapton tape, glues, arathane, and other materials
Accountable for its on time and on quality delivery of allocated activities and tasks
Responsible for the completion of limited battery testing activities after training
Accountable for reading, understanding, and following the build documentation including technical drawings (training is provided)
Responsible for raising any material or purchase requests to the Manufacturing Team Leader
Responsible for maintaining the cleanroom areas in a clean and operational condition
Responsible for training process support in manufacturing mechanical tasks (when competent)
Supporting updates to the departments QMS and process documentation
Understanding and applying relevant standards and process guidelines specified in the manufacturing documentation (e.g. BMS processes, ECSS specifications)
Support project documentation review process
Responsible for supporting manufacturing mechanical processes training documentation, delivery of training and assessment of training outcomes
Support build process risk reviews and assessments
Support non-conformance reviews and actively applying lessons learned as required
Responsible for active communication of task process and activities
Qualification
The successful candidate should be able to understand a manufacturing process and activity
It would be beneficial if they are educated in an engineering subject
It would be beneficial if they can demonstrate a hands-on approach to mechanical assembly
Experience
Expected to have a strong experienced background in assembly operations
Ideally but not essential to have two to five years of relevant assembly experience. Ideally in Aerospace manufacturing or engineering environment
A commitment to hardware safety as top priority
Ideally but not essential to have experience and understanding of basic electrical test equipment functionality
A strong attention to detail, logical and proactive approach
Strong adherence to following instructions and tasks
An ability to work to deadlines
A business minded and process driven attitude
Proficient skills with MS Office / Office 365 suite of programs
