Job Description: 

An excellent opportunity for a Senior Manufacturing Technician to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles.  The company’s customer’s include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems.  The position is based in the Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and is a job that can truly impact people across the globe

Summary

A mechanically adept manufacturing and assembly technician who will complete all mechanical elements of space battery builds to specific instruction and process

Duties and Responsiblities

Ensuring the Health & Safety of everyone within area of responsibility at all times, including adherence to risk and COSHH assessments, safety protocol adherence and ensuring relevant PPE is used.
Accountable for ensuring the safety products and hardware, including ensuring relevant safety measure adherence 
Accountable for complying with company policies 
Accountable for complying with company and department performance process
Accountable for complying with cleanroom processes 
Accountable for the completion of all training provided by the company including cross training within other departments
Accountable for set up and use of equipment in preparation for assembly tasks execution
Accountable for the completion of all manufacturing and assembly documentation as required by process and industry expectation
Accountable for all manufacturing mechanical tasks including, but not limited to, spotwelding, pull testing, mechanical assembly, application of Kapton tape, glues, arathane, and other materials
Accountable for the accurate and consistent wiring and soldering of live flight hardware in accordance with ECSS held certification and manufacturing wiring QMS
Support the design, write and review project assembly documentation and drawings within allocated timeline, 
Accountable for manufacture and inspection of harnesses for flight hardware and test equipment
Accountable for the maintenance and management of cell block discharge harnesses and project harnesses when required including annual verification
Responsible for deputizing for the Manufacturing Team Leader when required
Responsible for active communication of task process and activities
Battery and test harness and breakout box inspection and verification
Accountable for its on time and on quality delivery of allocated activities and tasks
Responsible for the completion of limited battery testing activities after training
Accountable for reading, understanding, and following the build documentation including technical drawings (training is provided)
Responsible for raising any material or purchase requests to the Manufacturing Team Leader
Responsible for maintaining the cleanroom areas in a clean and operational condition
Responsible for updates to the departments QMS and process documentation
Understanding and applying relevant standards and process guidelines specified in the manufacturing documentation (e.g. BMS processes, ECSS specifications)
Responsible for manufacturing mechanical processes and manufacturing internal wiring process training documentation, delivery of training and assessment of training outcomes 
Responsible for build process risk reviews and assessments
Support non-conformance reviews and actively applying lessons learned as required

Qualification

The successful candidate shall be qualified in 
ECSS-Q-ST-70-08 Manual soldering of high reliability electrical connections and inspection, 
ECSS-Q-ST-70-26 Crimping of high-reliability electrical connections along with experience in an engineering subject and have a hands-on approach to engineering and mechanical assembly.
Two to five years of relevant assembly experience. Ideally in Aerospace manufacturing or engineering environment
