An excellent opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company’s customer’s include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems. The position is based in the Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and is a job that can truly impact people across the globe.
Summary
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for a team of junior and project engineers that provide technical assessment, analysis and data review for space projects throughout the project lifecycle.
The Senior Engineer is responsible for assignment of tasks to direct reports, provides over-sight of the technical solutions, and functions as the senior technical representative to the customer for critical project discussions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
The role is accountable for the safety of all employees, workers, visitors and hardware of EnerSys ABSL

Strategy Delivery
The role is accountable for on time and on quality technical solutions delivered directly to the customer
The role is responsible for accurate and efficient assessment of design performance and compliance verification
The role directly represents Enersys ABSL in customer meetings and reviews
Programmatic control
The role is accountable for schedule adherence of technical tasks on their own projects, and for direct reports
The role supports the allocation of work across the department
The role is responsible for the definition of technical work packages
The role is accountable for technical inputs to risk management of the projects
The role is responsible for timely technical review of project documentation prior to formal release
The role is accountable for the timely completion of documentation to the standards held by ABSL
Performance and Design of Product
The role is accountable for detailed project design solutions
The role supports the CABC team in opportunity capture activities, including customer site presentations (according to CABC team requests via Engineering Manager)
The role is accountable for the accurate analysis and documentation of the project design
The role is accountable for technical inputs to project readiness review meetings
The role is accountable for the in-build and in-test sign-off of technical checks
The role is accountable for the production of verification and validation plans
The role is accountable for the verification of project hardware from review of test data and correlation to predicted performance
The role is accountable for the assessment and documentation of verification and validation outcomes
The role is accountable for review and sign-off of compliance statements to the project and industry specifications
Cost Control and Improvement
The role is responsible for cost reduction and improvement strategy and implementation projects agreed with the Engineering Manager
The role supports department purchasing requests, but shall not authorise expenditure on behalf of the business
The role does not have direct responsibility for cost or expenditure, but is expected to support the Project Manager(s) in cost control
Qualifications
A degree in STEM subject, or equivalent qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Required
Experience as a technically responsible engineer on customer facing projects in a highly regulated industry, e.g. aerospace
High level of IT skills for data analysis, modelling, results presentation and reporting
Experience with test and verification activities, and reporting
Experiene in reviewing and constructively criticising analytical results, technical reports and documents
Desirable
Vibration/shock testing
Mechanical design and analysis
Thermal design and analysis
Magnetic moment analysis
Li-ion battery performance
Battery management systems
Spacecraft power systems
Familiarity with hazard analysis and FMECA
Experience working with space industry primes, agencies and end users
Knowledge and understanding of ECSS standards

An ability to interpret standards and customer specifications and develop compliant solutions
Attention to detail and an ability to examine and present data clearly
A focus on mentoring and developing others to meet technical requirements, design reviews/ gates/ milestones, and the design qualification process
An ability to work in a multi-project environment; to effectively prioritise and work to detailed scheduled plans and tight deadlines
