Job Purpose

This position will be based in our EnerSys Advanced Systems (EAS) Space line of business, which will be part of a team delivering international space missions for satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company works with both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial marketplace supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things (IoT) satellite constellations and global positioning and navigation systems. This is a role that can truly be said to impact people across the globe.

 

The Role:

The Team Leader is responsible for team of engineers and technicians that carry out Li-ion cell evaluation, batch acceptance testing, and preparation of Li-ion cells for space projects. The role co-ordinates and prioritises work across the team, and is responsible for the training and development of the team members.

The role additionally acts as the PM for internal project activities completed within the Cell Engineering team. The aim of these projects is to ensure the flow of cells from delivery to manufacture is scheduled to provide the right number and type of cells at the right time. The role also manages internal or external development projects within the wider Engineering department to drive improvements through the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role is responsible for managing internal projects within the Cell Engineering team at EnerSys ABSL; these projects include:

  • Identifying new Li-ion cell types, and carrying out initial testing
  • Completing cell qualification campaigns that validate the use of a cell type in the space environment
  • Verifying batches of cells through lot acceptance test programs
  • Carrying out pre-manufacturing checks on all Li-ion cells in the business

 

As the internal project manager, the role will be responsible for the following:

  • Determining project priorities and resourcing to achieve delivery dates
  • Creating and maintaining project schedules (in conjunction with project schedulers)
  • Planning and tracking project tasks
  • Booking external resources required to complete project tasks
  • Management and communication of project booking codes
  • Cost control of projects
  • Ensuring clear status reports are available on progress of projects
  • Ensure the tasks are fed into the company planning process
  • Planning non-conformance inputs and reviews

 

The role is also responsible for managing other internally and externally funded development projects within the Engineering department, e.g. battery redesign, process updates

As the Team Leader for Cell Engineering, the role will be responsible for managing their direct reports and co-ordinating across the team, including:

  • Timesheets/absence monitoring/annual leave etc
  • Setting of goals/objectives and performing appraisals
  • Training and career development plans
  • Co-ordinating and prioritising work and resource across the team
  • Organising and chairing team meetings
  • Long term resource loading and needs identification
  • Producing Team KPIs

Qualifications

  • A degree in STEM subject, or industry equivalent qualification
  • A Prince2, APM or similar formal project management qualification

Experience / Skills

  • Experience working within tightly controlled industries, e.g. aerospace, medical
  • Experience managing a portfolio of smaller projects
  • Strong capability to use MS Project for task and resource management purposes, a formal qualification is an advantage
  • Strong skills with MS Office / Office 365 suite of programs
  • Experience in mentoring and developing others
  • An ability to delegate tasks and support team members working on multiple projects
