This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.


Job Purpose

With limited supervision, the Software Engineer III is responsible for the complex activities relating to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of software projects, including the development, interpretation, and implementation of specifications and functional requirements. Responsible for project management elements of larger projects and/or multiple smaller ones. May supervise other developers. This is a temporary position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform software-related design within projects
  • Provide an interface between engineering groups, co-developers, applications, technical publications, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and the customer
  • Develop and implement detailed engineering specifications/validation test plans and internal processes related to software development
  • Design, develop, test and qualify firmware for products utilizing firmware control and/or communications
  • Produce quality software/firmware architectural documentation, test plans and test reports for firmware-based products
  • Evaluate released product designs and propose significant cost reduction/functional improvement changes
  • Coordinate/conduct all necessary qualification and verification testing required for proposed design changes
  • Propose technical solutions to requests/problems from other departments and write change orders to effectively implement solutions
  • Provide technical solutions to customer requests for modified standard products
  • Communicate and coordinate design information with other design team members
  • Assume full project management responsibilities for high visibility released products
  • Provide technical design insight for the overall development of embedded firmware based products
  • Mentor junior engineers if applicable


This position may contain supervisory responsibilities


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in BSCS, BSCE, BSEE, BSEET or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in the field of firmware/software design and development
  • Solid skills in project, vendor and customer timeline management
  • Excellent textual and verbal communications ability
  • SW development methodology experience 
  • Good teamwork and team-building skills
  • Good interpersonal communications skills and documentation discipline
  • Hands on experience in fast-paced environment
  • Experience with embedded systems with and without RTOS
  • General knowledge of documentation and release process
  • Development experience with communications based protocols
  • Assembly language, C/C++ proficiency (firmware)
  • Digital real-time control design experience (firmware)



  • Experience implementing networking protocols including SNMP, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, and DOCSIS
  • Knowledge of C, C++, JAVA, SNMP, TCP/IP, SNMP, TDMA, and HTTP
  • DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 knowledge and experience in status monitoring systems
  • Power electronics development or sustaining experience 
  • Power electronics simulation software experience
  • Experience in embedded and communication hardware design 
  • Some testing using LAMP, PERL, Shell scripting, Java, MySQL, and DOCSIS/DSG
