This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.

 

Job Purpose

Under minimum supervision, performs moderately complex assignments. Designs, documents, and supports products in accordance with engineering drawing standards and ANSI/ASME precedent and recognized methods. Performs design calculations, interfaces with vendors, and performs cost evaluation. This is an intermediate level mechanical engineering position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports mechanical design engineering and production documentation
  • Designs products based upon engineering principles to set marketing/technical specifications in a cost effective and timely manner
  • Develops production or experimental designs and work proposals from preliminary design data, rough sketches, technical/marketing specifications, or verbal information; works with other design engineers, technical specialists, program managers, or management
  • Provides assistance on proposal activity by generating conceptual layouts, estimating costs and scheduling timelines
  • Checks pertinent information on component parts, assemblies and sub-systems that are under study using charts, graphs and calculations to substantiate design ideas
  • Performs structural, geometric and strength of material analysis to determine clearances, interferences and fits on complicated mechanisms
  • Performs dynamic analysis involving impact, moment of inertia, acceleration and vibration
  • Performs thermal analysis and heat transfer calculations on new and existing designs
  • Evaluates mechanical issues pertaining to CSA, U/L

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • 2 or more years of experience in a related engineering role
  • Electro-mechanical product design
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles
  • Strong computer skills to leverage modern CAD tools and simulation packages
  • Ability to search and track down information required for initial design
  • Sound knowledge of engineering principles in statics, dynamics, strength of materials and heat transfer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree is a plus. 
  • Battery engineering experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabicating equipment
  • Familiarity with CFD & FEA analysis
  • Familiarity with the design of electronics enclosures
  • Basic knowledge of design for injection-molded and die-cast components
