Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, the Senior NPI Buyer will manage Procurement Team deliverables and activities for assigned New Product Introduction and Procurement Team projects. Ensures activities are scheduled and completed to meet deliverables through concept, proto, pilot, and pre-production stage gates. Plans specific short and long-term activities to ensure delivery timelines, component sourcing options, cost targets, material master data, and critical component approval milestones. Facilitate DFM /DFT feedback from suppliers for the NPI team to include Engineering. Maintain appropriate data fields in the ERP system to ensure cost effective, timely delivery, and quality of materials are in place to support full production. Proposes and executes strategic decisions to include make/buy and global procurement options based on anticipated demand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    Manage project schedules for Procurement Team projects, including Procurement Team schedules for NPI projects.
•    Responsible for Project management of operations deliverables to successfully transition product from prototype to Production release. 
•    Support engineering and project team procurement deliverables for NPI projects
•    Assist in qualifying suppliers for prototype and production, including performing reference checks, reviewing quotations, and evaluating long term capability to meet production volumes
•    Interface with all levels of management both internally and externally to resolve purchasing related deliverables and issues
•    Develops sources of supply, both domestic and offshore, where existing suppliers are unable to meet NPI product specifications
•    Provide short- and long-term solutions for effective inventory levels for specified NPI components based on LT /MOQ /corporate agreements and negotiations with suppliers and distributors
•    Serves as the conduit between engineering, quality, and production and the suppliers for DFM / DFT, yield reporting, and identification of alternative parts for AVL controlled parts
•    Performs reporting functions to assist in future make/buy decisions, domestic vs. offshore sourcing, as required for NPI projects
•    Identify and implement continuous improvement metrics to improve cost, quality, and delivery performance for NPI projects

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in logistics, operations or transportation management, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in international procurement, supply chain management, purchasing management, or related position required.
  • Minimum  1 year experience in project management
  • APICS, CPIM certification preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to apply knowledge of supply chain management, procurement, purchasing, import/export, and inventory control and related accounting practices required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and an enterprise resource planning system required.
  • 30% travel required   
  • Must be able to work a regular schedule and maintain predictable attendance 
  • Must be able to work in an office environment, at a desk with a computer workstation, as well as being exposed to the manufacturing environment.
  • May be exposed to occupational hazards including, but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc., and must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
  • Required to sit for periods of time and stand or move about the facility. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, bend, and lift up to 10 pounds.
