Job Purpose

Our Renewable Energy Design group includes electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software engineers.  This position is based in Bellingham, WA.This is a development engineering position which offers a significant opportunity for innovation and creativity. You will be working with a team to introduce photovoltaic charge controllers and grid tie inverters. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Power converter and inverter system modeling, simulation, and design.
  • High frequency magnetics design
  • Experience with the DSP for power converters 
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Report generation
  • Component cost studies
  • Collaborative work in a team environment
  • Manage projects for product development and product improvement.
  • Provide technical support to Management, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, Service, Purchasing, Quality, and other Engineering groups


Applicants must have the following minimum education, skills, and work experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and 5 years’ experience
  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and 2 years’ experience
  • Experience with power electronics and power engineering
  • Experience with energy storage or renewable energy systems is desired
  • Experience with electrical systems / batteries including standard measurement and safety equipment for voltages up to 1000Vdc / 600Vac is desired
  • Experience with Altium Designer or other commercial PCB design software package
  • Good engineering communications and documentation skills
  • Develops clear and concise written reports and presentations to management and peers
  • The ability to work in a team environment on several projects at once
  • The ability to learn new concepts quickly
  • Contribute to development and on-time execution of project schedules
  • Ensure that electrical and electronic systems meet all product performance, reliability, and safety requirements.


The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will be required to demonstrate in depth technical knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with high frequency magnetics design
  • In-depth knowledge and experience on power electronics especially with resonant converter and inverter build and test
  • Demonstrate knowledge of power device, device characterization and gate driver design
  • Demonstrate power circuit simulation capability with PSpice and MATLAB/Simulink
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with EMI/EMC
