Alpha Technologies Ltd., an EnerSys company, has an opportunity for a dynamic BUYER (Contract Manufacturing), to join our Supply Chain group in our Burnaby location.

Reporting to the Purchasing and Planning Manager, the Buyer will manage the flow of finished and semi-finished assemblies from our suppliers to various Alpha warehouses, while ensuring Alpha maintains optimal inventory levels. The role will involve a considerable amount of planning to ensure suppliers are focused on the right priorities and that their capacity is being utilized efficiently. The Buyer will need to foster strong working relationships with team members and suppliers to drive cost, quality, delivery, and inventory improvements. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the relationship with Alpha’s strategic suppliers.
  • Communicate and coordinate engineering changes to ensure smooth transitions within the product life cycle.
  • Create and maintain purchase orders according to MRP requirements.
  • Utilize ERP tools to identify issues, resolve problems, and support supply chain metrics.
  • Update orders and tracking systems to ensure the latest information regarding supplier delivery is available.
  • Assist strategic suppliers with resolving component shortages.
  • Identify and communicate potential delays internally, and work with CM to mitigate schedule risks.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and implement improvements and corrective action as required.
  • Perform back-up duties for other buyers.
  • Process RMAs.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by manager.
  • Generate status reports for management on a weekly and/or monthly basis.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of procurement experience.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers, with a strong understanding of the entire supply chain and the typical challenges dealing with offshore vendors.
  • Understanding of BOM costing and detailed quotes.
  • Working knowledge of ERP software (APS experience is an asset).
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task as required.
  • Have a strong sense of urgency - ability to identify and prioritize key daily initiatives.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation). 
  • High level of personal accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and as valuable part of a team.
  • Self-motivated; works well in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Continuous improvement mind-set.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a Windows environment with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
