Job Purpose

Role surrounds manufacturing test equipment development (automated and manual) for power conversion, energy storage, and related system products.  Manufacturing test equipment involves mechanical, electrical, electronic and software design elements.  Position assists with design and development activities of both hardware and software elements of product screening test systems for the manufacturing environment.  Performs a variety of engineering tasks using standard and customized test tools and software. Assists with the development of comprehensive test plans and test procedures, construction of test systems, and validation of test systems through qualification screening.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interface with test engineers and project engineers to help develop test plans and requirement specifications for new and existing products. 
  • Assist with test fixture designs to meet test requirements specification, and following through with full hardware prototype construction and software development of that plan.
  • Conduct and document qualification testing of fixture / software designs to assure they consistently meet requirements and generate consistent results.
  • Document fixture designs and test procedures to production for use and reproduction.  Work with factory test engineers and manufacturing engineers to introduce new procedures and equipment into the production environment.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues that come up during production testing of products to identify root cause and corrective improvements.
  • Evaluate new product designs to identify Design for Test improvements and make recommendations to electrical and mechanical design engineers or manufacturing engineers.
  • Develop and document maintenance plans and spare equipment requirements for test fixtures.
  • Collaborate with Engineering team and project stakeholders (Manufacturing, Quality, Service, Product Management) to identify options and solutions to test-oriented problems.
  • Communicate with engineering group to develop testing solutions.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a technical degree program in electrical engineering or equivalent. It is preferred the graduate students (MSc/PhD, nice to have).
  • Experience with electronics laboratory equipment (meters, oscilloscopes, power analyzer, data acquisition modules, power sources, etc.). 
  • Solid problem solving, debugging, and analysis skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative and cross-functional environment.
  • Good knowledge in power electronic systems and electrical power systems.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to take ownership of tasks, projects, and resolution of problems.  Self-directed and willing to respond to direct tasking.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).

Desired Qualifications / Skills

  • LabVIEW development experience for hardware integration/automation and test data generation.
  • Familiar with object-oriented programming language (such as Python). 
  • Electrical schematic capture experience (e.g., Altium).
  • Mechanical and electrical assembly / soldering skills necessary for test fixture prototyping.
  • Design and/or test experience with power supplies, inverters, battery chargers, or batteries.
  • Experience in embedded systems communications protocols: I2C, SPI, RS-485, Ethernet, etc.
  • Knowledge of PCB assembly processes.
  • Familiarity with high volume electronics production test and quality screening methods (ICT, MDA, AOI), Bed-of-Nails physical interfaces, and high reliability test fixture interfaces (Hypertronics, CPC, etc.).
  • Exposure and familiarity with PLM and/or MRP/ERP systems.
