Job Purpose
We are currently seeking an Electromechanical Technologist based in our Burnaby, BC site to expand our power systems engineering team for the execution of our Product Roadmap, supporting electrical and mechanical engineering activities. This position will be responsible for mechanical prototypes assembling, parts modification and rework, wiring-up sample units and general power systems assembling based on engineering product documentation. Planning and arranging test set-ups and conducting electrical as well as environmental measurements are part of the position. The Electromechanical Technologist will report to Power Systems Engineering Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assemble mechanical systems and power systems with the supervision of the responsible engineer. Build mechanical prototypes, create wiring assemblies, realize production and test jigs
• Review, generate and troubleshoot assembly documentation
• Prepare and execute electrical tasks, such as doing wirings on prototypes, basic soldering on board level and running performance + efficiency tests
• Support product design activities through effective implementation of measuring methods, standards, and best practices
• Support sustaining engineering activities through root cause analysis of field issues, product documentation updates and feedback to engineers to improve the design on a Quality and Reliability perspective
• Create, record, and analyze measurement data through various levels of product design phases
• Proactively identify and communicate product assembling and testing risks
• Support and work closely together with the V&V Engineering team
• Support the Compliance & DV team with respect to validation testing as needed
• Drive lean thinking and continuous improvement through new concepts proposals
• Promote innovative designs and methods via new technology investigation and characterization and evaluation of new tools
• Advise stakeholders on any issues in a timely fashion
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Power Systems Engineering Manager
Required Qualifications
• 3 years of demonstrated education and experience on the assembly & measurement of electromechanical systems
• Base-level proficiency with 2D/3D CAD mechanical design software (SolidWorks preferred). Base level proficiency with electrical software such as Altium schematic and AutoCad software is an asset.
• Base to medium level experience using standard electrical measurement equipment like Multimeter, Oscilloscope, Power-Meter etc.
• Experience with standard Engineering and Production documentation, including BOM, assembly and part drawings, qualified parts lists, schematics, ECN’s, etc.
• Understanding of fabrication technologies (sheet metal forming, machining, injection molding, etc.) and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) principles
• Looking for a self-starter that can obtain information/skills with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of Electromechanical systems and components, with a preference towards AC & DC power systems experience (examples include high-voltage & high-current distribution & cabling, indoor/outdoor enclosures & racks, thermal management components, magnetics, fuses & breakers, communication & data interfaces, EMI shielding, etc.) would be a great asset
• Ability to troubleshoot and remedy product related issues; cost reduction and reliability improvement design activities is helpful
• Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical/electronics circuit functionality (reading schematics, etc.) a big plus
• A strong sense of ownership and the ability to work productively and efficiently to ensure that committed dates are met
Preferred Qualifications
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent knowledge, training and experience
• Knowledge on Thermal management and/or CFD solutions
• Basic understanding of wiring methods, grounding / bonding, and over current protection devices as described in the CEC and / or NEC
• Experience in Power-Conversion environments such as AC/DC or DC/DC
• Experience on Telecommunication systems design and assembling is an asset
