EnerSys’ Energy Systems Americas (ESA) division designs and manufactures power solutions for industries such as Telecom, CATV Broadband, Traffic Control, and Renewables Energy. We have an opportunity for a dynamic operations leader to lead our large-scale manufacturing and operations team in our Burnaby, BC facility (formerly Alpha Technologies).

As the Plant Manager, your key focus will be to challenge site leaders to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve their KPI’s.  You will lead people, projects, and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business. This role encompasses complex assignments with long-term business implications and contributes to the overall operational strategy.

Striving for a lean continuous improvement approach locally, then expand across our North American operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide overall management for the Manufacturing and Operations team, leading the various groups to deliver results, continuous improvement, and high levels of customer satisfaction, while developing and monitoring activities that establish a positive work environment.
  • Develop, motivate, monitor, and support the philosophies of EOS (EnerSys Operating System), with an emphasis on championing the goals, objectives, and improvement plans across the plant. 
  • Employ and mentor Lean methodologies and tools to accomplish most efficient ways to utilize people, machines, materials, information, and energy to make a product or service; with emphasis on maximizing quality, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction.
  • Champion methods and leadership to foster employee engagement and acceptance of management-directed changes while promoting healthy, respectful communications.
  • Confer with your team to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Collaborate with the Quality department to drive overall improvements in product quality including containment and root cause analysis of any quality escapes.
  • Develop and execute plans for meeting customer delivery expectations through planning and execution of staffing requirements.
  • Champion cost savings programs through scrap reduction, methods improvement, material optimization, and emphasis on increased efficiencies.
  • Lead rapid improvement events (RIE) to deliver target improvements. 
  • Direct health and safety programs to strive to make the plant accident free.
  • Assure that the plant meets all environmental and safety standards.
  • Management responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • A four-year degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a business-related equivalent.
  • MBA and 10 years’ experience in a process improvement function is preferred.
  • Must have the ability strategically plan, and make sound logic/data driven decisions on technical, HR, programs/projects, and financial matters.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities; must be able to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to reach consensus around common goals.
  • Can effectively communicate with all levels to maintain relationships and cooperation in pursuing the Business goals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables; must have above average knowledge and experience in application of statistical techniques.
  • Understand statistical analysis tools/methodology, project management, SAP, Quality, and basic financial principles, and apply them to analyze the planned activities.
  • Excellent project leadership skills.
  • Identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals.
  • Train and coach employees; ensure 2-way open communication throughout the organization.
  • Ability to lead and direct an improvement team.  Must be a results-oriented “change leader" who is an effective business systems thinker.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and SAP (or similar ERP software).
  • Occasional travel may be required.
