This position will report to our EnerSys Energy Systems business, which serves the telecom, cable broadband, industrial, renewable, and data center markets. Compensation Range: $52,100-$70,000
Compensation may vary based on applicant's work experience, education level, skill set, and/or location.
Job Purpose
As a result of our continuing growth, Alpha Technologies Ltd. has an opportunity for an experienced POWER ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGIST to join our Engineering – Power Conversion Team at our Burnaby head office.
Reporting to the Power Conversion Engineering Manager, the POWER ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGIST will assist engineering to build and test switch-mode power supplies to meet reliability, regulatory, and performance requirements within budgeted cost and schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and executes design verification testing, design evaluation, design margins and analysis of product performance to meet specifications at various electrical and environmental conditions.
- Develops test procedures and test jigs.
- Performs verification tests and recommends solutions to ensure that the designed product conforms to international regulatory and product safety standards.
- Tests and troubleshoots towards electromagnetic interference, compatibility and immunity requirements.
- Assists with component parts selection and evaluations.
- Performs design revisions and updates on new and existing products and assists in transferring design to manufacturing, ensuring reliable and cost-effective production.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge, training and experience.
- Progressive experience in the area of switch-mode power supplies, DC/AC converters, DC/AC inverters, and UPS's is desired but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience with power supply testing requirements per international regulatory and product safety standards (EN60950, UL1778, FCC, etc.) is desired.
- Experience with thermal testing is an asset.
- Good understanding of application software such as SolidWorks, Altium, PADS, or similar design software and Microsoft Office.
- Familiar with software and embedded firmware in electronics products.
- General knowledge on mechanical and product assembly and testing.
- Knowledge of PCB assembly methods such as manual SMT and through-hole soldering.
- Ability to work as part of a team or with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to travel in and outside North America, if necessary.
