Compensation Range: $52,100-$70,000

Job Purpose

As a result of our continuing growth, Alpha Technologies Ltd. has an opportunity for an experienced POWER ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGIST to join our Engineering – Power Conversion Team at our Burnaby head office.

Reporting to the Power Conversion Engineering Manager, the POWER ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGIST will assist engineering to build and test switch-mode power supplies to meet reliability, regulatory, and performance requirements within budgeted cost and schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and executes design verification testing, design evaluation, design margins and analysis of product performance to meet specifications at various electrical and environmental conditions.
Develops test procedures and test jigs.
Performs verification tests and recommends solutions to ensure that the designed product conforms to international regulatory and product safety standards.
Tests and troubleshoots towards electromagnetic interference, compatibility and immunity requirements.
Assists with component parts selection and evaluations.
Performs design revisions and updates on new and existing products and assists in transferring design to manufacturing, ensuring reliable and cost-effective production.

Qualifications

Diploma or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge, training and experience.
Progressive experience in the area of switch-mode power supplies, DC/AC converters, DC/AC inverters, and UPS's is desired but not required.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Experience with power supply testing requirements per international regulatory and product safety standards (EN60950, UL1778, FCC, etc.) is desired.
Experience with thermal testing is an asset.
Good understanding of application software such as SolidWorks, Altium, PADS, or similar design software and Microsoft Office.
Familiar with software and embedded firmware in electronics products.
General knowledge on mechanical and product assembly and testing.
Knowledge of PCB assembly methods such as manual SMT and through-hole soldering.
Ability to work as part of a team or with minimal supervision.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
Ability to travel in and outside North America, if necessary.
