This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.


Job Purpose

As a result of our continuing growth, Alpha Technologies Ltd. has an opportunity for an experienced Senior POWER ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGIST to join our Engineering – Power Conversation Team at our Burnaby head office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes design verification testing, design evaluation, design margins and analysis of product performance to meet specifications at various electrical and environmental conditions.
  • Develops test procedures and test jigs.
  • Performs verification tests and recommends solutions to ensure that the designed product conforms to international regulatory and product safety standards.
  • Tests and troubleshoots towards electromagnetic interference, compatibility and immunity requirements.
  • Assists with component parts selection and evaluations.
  • Performs design revisions and updates on new and existing products and assists in transferring design to manufacturing, ensuring reliable and cost-effective production.



  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related
  • 8+ years of experience as an Electronics Technologist or similar role
  • Progressive experience in the area of switch-mode power supplies, DC/AC converters, DC/AC inverters, and UPS's is desired but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Experience with power supply testing requirements per international regulatory and product safety standards (EN60950, UL1778, FCC, etc.) is desired.
  • Experience with thermal testing is an asset.
  • Good understanding of application software such as SolidWorks, Altium, PADS, or similar design software and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with software and embedded firmware in electronics products.
  • General knowledge on mechanical and product assembly and testing.
  • Knowledge of PCB assembly methods such as manual SMT and through-hole soldering.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or with minimal supervision.
