This position will be focusing primarily on our Energy Systems line of business, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Role Overview
The Machine Operator will produce parts from materials using tools and drawings on a press brake, to make precision bends, punches and forms, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimum wastage, making adjustments to the machine to control speed, material feed and path of the bend, as well as make sure the machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product.
Main Responsibilities
- Prepare and perform press brake setups and forming operations, including custom punch/die modifications and the use of standard and custom tooling.
- Program and operate press brake equipment using all available machine functions, including angle bending, step bending, back-gauge positioning, transfers, and dwell settings.
- Conduct tool changes and machine setups in accordance with work instructions, programs, and production requirements.
- Perform manual setups and adjust machine settings through the NC interface to achieve required product specifications.
- Work to routed cycle times and report any discrepancies, delays, or process issues with appropriate justification.
- Maximise machine productivity and support Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by reducing setup time, minimizing downtime, maintaining machine availability, and ensuring efficient operation throughout the shift.
- Perform routine equipment checks and promptly report machine faults, tooling issues, or maintenance requirements to prevent unplanned downtime.
- Ensure the machine is supplied with the correct materials and tooling to maintain uninterrupted production flow.
- Manufacture products in accordance with technical drawings, work instructions, quality standards, and customer requirements.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of technical drawings, geometric tolerances, and flat pattern development as they relate to finished components.
- Inspect and measure workpieces using appropriate metrology equipment to ensure compliance with dimensional and quality requirements.
- Ensure finished products are defect-free and suitable for the next stage of production.
- Minimize defects, scrap, and rework through adherence to quality standards and attention to detail during setup and operation.
- Record and report non-conforming products in accordance with company procedures and work order requirements.
- Complete all work order documentation, run sheets, process records, and production data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate part counts, process times, and stock records, and report any stock discrepancies.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvements, waste reduction, cost savings, and productivity enhancements.
- Wear required PPE and immediately report hazards, near misses, incidents, unsafe conditions, and damaged equipment.
- Ensure workpieces, pallets, and materials are packaged, secured, and handled safely to prevent injury or product damage during transport.
- Maintain tooling in a clean, serviceable condition and ensure it is stored correctly after use.
- Apply and maintain 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) in the work area, ensuring machines, tooling, materials, and workstations remain clean, organised, and audit-ready.
- Maintain stock identification and labelling in accordance with company requirements and traceability standards.
- Assist team members with bending operations, particularly for large, heavy, or complex components requiring multiple operators.
- Maintain effective communication and positive working relationships with team leaders, colleagues, and other departments.
- Actively participate in training, continuous improvement initiatives, safety programs, and 5S activities to improve performance, quality, and operational efficiency.

Ideal Candidate
Minimum Requirement
- 2 – 3 years previous experience in a similar role requiring similar skills within manufacturing preferably Sheetmetal.
- Preferably used AMADA Press Brake equipment.
- Practical experience in work-place safety
- NC systems experience
- Flexibility with working hours including the ability to work after hours and travel locally if required
- Very good spoken and written English
Preferred
- Formal LEAN / Continuous Improvement qualifications
- A certificate or sufficient experience in an applicable trade to enable satisfactory performance as stated in responsibilities, functions and tasks.
- Forklift Licence (preferable but not required)
