Job Purpose
This role is for an individual who will help design, develop, and test the mechanical components of EnerSys next generation cells. An ideal candidate would have a background in the automotive, aerospace, or energy industries with solid simulation skills and lithium ion cell understanding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform 3D thermal/CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis simulations at cell level using commercial CAE/CFD software to meet battery development timing.
- Post process and report thermal simulation results to product development teams to guide battery design in support of product development landmarks.
- Analyze and process lab thermal test data from battery physical thermal testing and apply it to correlate CAE models.
- Determine loading and boundary conditions for thermal CAE/CFD models based on lab physical testing conditions.
- Work with testing and battery engineers to specify thermal testing and instrumentation of battery for CAE correlation and physical test reduction.
- Lead CAE-testing interactions and apply CAE thermal tools to support testing teams, test reduction efforts and virtual test signoff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
- 5 years proven experience in thermal analysis and 3D thermal / CFD simulation techniques.
- 3+ years proven experience in thermal analysis supporting product development.
- 5+ of Computed Aided Engineering (CAE) software tools for heat transfer analysis, such as StarCCM+ / ANSYS (preferred) / COMSOL (preferred) and CAE model building software tools such as Ansa and Hypermesh.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD degree preferred.
- Working experience in CAD geometry cleanup for CAE, simulation model building and meshing, CAE model setup, model running and post-processing.
- Strong analytical and good inter-personal skills. Good organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Great teammate, ability to build relationships and trust within and across team boundaries
- Adept user of Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel
- Analytics background preferred
Travel Expectations
- Quarterly international travel for a week at a time.
