Job Purpose

Mad Scientists Wanted!  Well, maybe HAPPY mad scientists.  At EnerSys Hays we build monster-sized industrial batteries that keep your cell network up and running, among other things. Charging is where the battery comes to life… pretty cool stuff. We’ll train you to charge an 800-pound battery before it goes to one of our world-wide customers.  Yes, we do that right here in Hays, Kansas!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives batteries from Assembly in acid-fill.
  • Wires batteries with jumpers per customer specification.
  • Fill tubs with water for cooling.
  • Takes initial specific gravity reading and every four hours during charging process.
  • Check voltages, acid temperature and water temperatures regularly on one battery in each tub throughout the charging cycle.
  • Makes adjustments as needed until the formation schedule is complete.



  • High School diploma, GED or the equivalent.


  • One to two years job experience in a closely related industrial environment, or the equivalent.

  • A background in Chemistry.

  • Forklift experience preferred.
