Job Title:  Drafter

Job Purpose

Creates technical drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software and 2D/3D models based on design specifications to ensure manufacturing accuracy and adherence to project/product standards by producing layouts and detailed drawings in collaboration with the Engineering Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create precise technical drawings and 2D/3D models based on design specifications, collaborating with Engineering to translate conceptual designs into detailed plans for manufacturing while ensuring accuracy and adherence to project/product standards. Produces layouts, detailed drawings, and assembly diagrams. 
2. Works closely with Engineering and project teams to discuss design concepts, material optimization, and incorporate feedback to ensure design integrity. 
3. Creates new and updates existing drawings of equipment, machine tooling, and facilities. Works with Maintenance, Engineering, Production and suppliers to order replacement tooling and improve designs or produce new designs for tooling. Evaluates the functionality of new tooling to determine necessary changes and implements required changes. Prepares and issues requests for quotes.
4. Creates both 2D and 3D representations of designs to visualize tooling components, and project specifications from different angles to help identify potential issues. 
5. Modifies existing drawings based on design changes, incorporates feedback, and maintains version control. 
6. Ensures drawings comply with industry standards, codes, and company specifications regarding dimensions, annotations, and formatting.
7. Uses blueprint layout concept drawings and converts them to detailed CAD drawings.

Processes drafting work requests.

Qualifications

• Required:  Associate’s degree in industrial drafting, or the equivalent, plus 1 year of experience or internship in a comparable role.  Proficiency with AutoCAD 13 or higher.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in industrial drafting, or the equivalent, plus 3-5 years of experience. Experience with SolidWorks. Knowledge  of Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel.

•            Accountable to provide coordination of all drafting related activities in assigned work area to accomplish Plant-wide objectives and operational goals.

•            Knowledge of various software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access databases, and PowerPoint, plus various reporting platforms.

•            Ability to organize and prioritize job responsibilities to perform complex tasks efficiently and accurately.

•            Ability to perform widely varied tasks with minimal direct supervision.

•            Proficiency in relevant CAD software including AutoCAD, SolidWorks and others.

•            Knowledge of geometric principles and technical drawing practices.

•            Skill in attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in complex designs.
