Job Purpose

Responsible for electrochemical work for the Horsham, PA Facility’s high energy density and high-power density lithium batteries.  Primary electrochemistries are Lithium Alloy/ Metal Sulfide Thermal Batteries, Lithium/ Oxyhalide chemistries, and Lithium Ion.  Electrochemical work is comprised of:  Electrolyte manufacturing, electrode material manufacturing, electrochemical studies and investigations, and material characterization.  Additionally, the Electrochemist may be asked to provide content for bid and proposal work, participate in technical discussions with customers, lead material investigation projects, attend/ present at aerospace/ battery industry conferences.  The electrochemist will assist other members of the engineering department in the creation of new design solutions that meet customer requirements and company objectives. The electrochemist will also work with the Quality and Manufacturing functions to ensure that products are delivered to the highest possible standards.  The electrochemist will coordinate work activities with the engineering department technicians in the areas of electrolyte production, electrode material production, materials sampling and testing.   The electrochemist will be responsible to implement and ensure compliance with lab safety protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement and ensure best lab safety protocols.
  • Coordinate and assist with oxyhalide electrolyte production at the Horsham facility.
  • Coordinate and assist with Thermal battery powders production at the Horsham facility.
  • Coordinate all electrochemical materials testing   
  • Performs research, design, and development in such areas as chemical, electrochemical, and other related functions. 
    • Develops specifications for selecting materials and equipment to use. 
    • Evaluates materials from various industrial sources – to ensure the proper make up and quality.
    • Design and perform studies to assist with product investigations and failure reviews.
    • Establish and maintain best practices to ensure traceability of materials for all battery materials produced.
    • Facility is AS9100 certified Follow all documented procedures and maintain compliance with all procedures and policies.
    • Work with counterparts in our sister facility to standardize requirements, test methods, etc. to ensure products and materials are consistent between facilities.
    • The successful candidate will also prepare and present technical content at program review meetings, team meetings, technical conferences.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Electrochemistry, PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years battery industry experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Working knowledge of various analytical/ statistical techniques – DOE, trend analysis, probability, process capability, SPC, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and capabilities, best lab safety practices,  military, industry, and federal standards.
