Job Purpose

The Tool & Die Maker supports manufacturing operations by fabricating, modifying, repairing, and maintaining precision tooling, dies, fixtures, gauges, and production-equipment components. This position serves as a highly skilled technical resource in the machine shop and on the production floor, working closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure tooling is safe, accurate, reliable, and capable of meeting production and quality requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work from engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and CAD models to fabricate components and fixtures for in-house production equipment and prototypes within required tolerances.
Remove, clean, sharpen, re-install and complete tooling records for tight-tolerance punch and die sets.
Diagnose tooling failures, dimensional issues, excessive wear, and production problems.
Work with engineers to develop and improve both new and existing assembly tooling.
Operate a manual Bridgeport-style knee mill.
Operate a manual Hardinge-style toolroom lathe.
Operate a surface grinder.
Set up and operate a CNC vertical mill.
Maintains a safe, clean, and organized machine-shop environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.
Four or more years in a machine-shop environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

A completed formal apprenticeship.
Journeyman level experience.
Prior experience in an aerospace, defense and/or medical device manufacturing facility.
Prior experience with SolidWorks or other solid modeling software.
Prior experience with Mastercam or other CAM software.

General Job Requirements

Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
