Job Title:  Senior Controller

Job Purpose

The Controller, Rebel Systems, is the senior financial leader for a full P&L entity encompassing sales, engineering, and assembly operations. The role owns accounting, financial planning and analysis, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, cost management, and local internal control execution, while serving as the principal financial partner to the Rebel Systems General Manager and leadership team.

This is a hands-on financial leadership role in a growing business transitioning from a startup environment into the operating and control framework of a publicly traded company. The Controller will establish scalable accounting and FP&A processes, strengthen internal controls, improve financial and operational reporting, and personally execute critical activities while developing the organization’s longer-term capabilities.

The Controller partners closely with PPS Finance and leadership, the PPS Segment Controller, Corporate Accounting, Internal Audit, and other corporate functions to ensure Rebel Systems’ accounting, forecasting, reporting, and compliance activities meet business needs and EnerSys requirements. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure accurate, timely, complete, and supportable financial results in accordance with U.S. GAAP, EnerSys policies, and public-company reporting requirements.
• Maintain balance sheet integrity through disciplined reconciliations, appropriate accruals and reserves, clear account ownership, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Prepare and review entity financial statements, management reporting, account analyses, and supporting schedules; support quarterly reporting, management certifications, and external audit requests.
• Implement and operate applicable SOX controls and evidence requirements; support control testing and remediate identified gaps in partnership with Corporate Accounting, Internal Audit, and PPS Finance.
• Evaluate nonroutine transactions and accounting matters, identify risks early, and partner with the PPS Segment Controller and Corporate Accounting on appropriate treatment and documentation.
• Own standard costing and inventory valuation, including material, labor, overhead, routings, bills of material, absorption, and inventory reserve considerations.
• Own the financial control framework for physical inventory, cycle counts, and stock takes, including count procedures, variance investigation, inventory adjustments, and control evidence required to support accurate inventory valuation and internal control compliance.
• Analyze material price and usage, labor rate and efficiency, overhead, volume, absorption, scrap, rework, and other manufacturing variances; translate results into operational causes and recommended actions.
• Partner with operations, engineering, supply chain, and commercial leadership to improve cost visibility, gross margin, working capital, and cash conversion.
• Provide financial analysis for pricing, product cost, sourcing, make-versus-buy, capacity, capital investment, and operating-efficiency decisions.
• Own the Rebel Systems annual budget, periodic forecasts, long-range plans, cash flow outlook, and supporting financial narrative across revenue, margin, operating expenses, working capital, and capital expenditures.
• Ground forecasts in supportable operational assumptions, including demand, backlog, pricing, capacity, material availability, staffing, engineering requirements, and execution timing.
• Lead forecast-to-actual and period-over-period analyses, clearly explaining financial variances through the underlying business and operational drivers.
• Identify and quantify risks and opportunities and recommend actions or tradeoffs to Rebel Systems and PPS leadership.
• Provide complete entity forecasts and supporting assumptions to PPS FP&A; respond to constructive challenge and support incorporation into the consolidated PPS outlook.
• Serve as the principal financial partner to the General Manager, supporting strategy development, business planning, resource allocation, performance reviews, and execution accountability.
• Lead or support Rebel Systems’ integration into EnerSys accounting, reporting, internal control, FP&A, approval, and management processes.
• Lead or support ERP and related financial systems integration, including process design, data quality, controls, reporting, testing, and stabilization.
• Build scalable processes, documented procedures, clear ownership, and fit-for-purpose reporting while preserving the responsiveness required in a growing business.
• Assess future finance organization, systems, and capability needs as the business increases in size and complexity.
• Lead and develop the current general accounting resource and future members of the Rebel Systems finance organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including prior Controller or comparable full-scope financial leadership experience.
• Significant manufacturing accounting experience, including standard costing, inventory valuation, cost accounting, operational variance analysis, and financial close ownership.
• Experience in a SOX-compliant public-company environment, with strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Demonstrated ownership of both accounting and FP&A, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, cash flow planning, and management reporting.
• Experience partnering directly with business leadership and leading finance personnel in a lean organization.
• Strong ERP, financial reporting, and Microsoft Excel capabilities.
• Must meet applicable requirements to access export-controlled information under ITAR, including qualifying as a U.S. Person where required.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Certified Public Accountant designation.
• Experience with a startup, recently acquired business, or rapidly growing manufacturing organization.
• Experience integrating a business into a publicly traded company’s accounting, FP&A, reporting, systems, and internal control environment.
• Experience with ERP implementation or significant finance-process redesign.
• Familiarity with government contracting and applicable FAR and CAS requirements.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, engineered products, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
