Job Purpose
The EHS Advisor is responsible for supporting the Company’s aims and objectives relating to environmental, health and safety, promoting high standards in all disciplines and continuous improvement and foster a culture where EHS is at the heart of Newport operations. In addition, responsibility for EHS compliance with all regulations and standards applicable to the design, manufacture, and supply chain.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise and oversee health and safety best practice at EnerSys Newport and ensure health and safety compliance
- Develop, maintain, and implement, with the EHS Manager, environmental, health & safety programs and provide direction for the Newport operations. This includes all current applicable legislation and regulations (UK and derived from the EU), local, industry and any EnerSys initiatives
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and codes of practice
- Coordinate and lead timely investigations into incidents; establish root causes, corrective actions, and an investigation report
- Ensure exposure to hazardous substances (such as noise, dust/fume, chemicals) are minimized, measured and results acted upon
- Ensure EHS related issues are communicated timely to EHS Manager
- Support and contribute to site EHS committee meetings with representation from production, union and management, and act as Chairperson when required
- Support the new employee/agency induction process including carrying out the new employee induction process
- Provide reports as required by the EHS Manager and management
- Develop, implement, and monitor a robust accident prevention strategy through risk assessments, near miss reporting, analysis of key data and other proactive tools
- Support and actively participate with the implementation of EOS related projects
- Support, and, where required, develop a change management program to minimize/eliminate EHS impacts through business changes/improvements
- Advise and support on all EHS topics relating to the business and its processes such as REACH, RoHS, Battery Directive, and other applicable topics
- Maintain, and continuously improve the environmental, health and safety management system (eg ISO45001 & ISO14001) coordinate and complete external and internal audits
- Manage the blood lead programs to ensure a healthy working environment and company policy and targets are achieved
- Coordinate and support workwear/PPE provision and occupational health provision to ensure safe and healthy working environment
- Where required, support with compliance with all the conditions specified in the IPPC Permit, including the close monitoring of all business functions to ensure compliance
- Contribute to developing and implementing environmental policies and practices
- Collate, analyse and report environmental, health and safety information and provide reports as required for the management team, EHS Plant Committee and EnerSys Europe
- Ensure that environmental incidents are reported in the necessary timeframes and investigated in a timely manner with root causes and effective corrective actions established.
- Manage and drive environmental improvement and efficiencies with general waste management/recycling provision and utilities usage (eg electricity, water) across site
Qualifications
- Knowledge of EHS legislation and regulations (UK and derived from the EU) affecting the Newport EnerSys operation.
- Minimum of 3 years environmental, health and safety experience of working in a heavy industrial unionized manufacturing environment.
- Experience and understanding of management systems including ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and experience as internal auditor
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- IEMA foundation certificate
