Compensation Range: $79,800-$95,000

Job Purpose

Primarily responsible for commissioning activities related to Battery energy storage system (BESS) and DCFC system.  The scope will include but not limited to transformer, cable, protective device, Li-ion battery, control system, UPS, LV power distribution and overall system performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre-commissioning, through construction, testing & commissioning, energization & project close out) of various BESS and DCFC (Fast charge) protection, control and power circuits in accordance with Enersys and Client's requirements, budgets, schedules
  • Review of wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering documents in advance of projects and outages
  • Perform trouble-shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems related to BESS (battery energy) and DCFC (Fast charge) equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Ground Faults
  • Lead with on-site functional performance testing of various systems including Battery storage, power conversion and DC fast charge
  • Participate in project meetings including but not limited to: kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, lessons learned meetings.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analyses
  • Assist in developing project specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project specific documentation Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment. Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration in a manner that ensures no unintended operations of station equipment and protection systems and personnel safety.+
  • Make certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents. Make certain all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed and distributed properly.
  • Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Review and approve detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferably electrical and 3 years’ applicable experience.
Strong knowledge of power conversion equipment and control system.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in clearly communicating technical information.
Ability to interact on a professional level with design and construction professionals.
A strong work ethic and efficient work style, including the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
Motivated to advance both personal and company knowledge in the field of building commissioning.
Current CDN work eligibility is required together with a Valid CDN driver's license issued by province of residence and in good standing is required
Be able to conduct site inspections and field work, including carrying up to 50 lbs. upstairs, climb ladders, and maneuver through construction job sites safely.
Must be available for out-of-town travel
Must be available work flexible hours, weekends, overtime holidays and night work

Preferred Experience:
Experience new construction commissioning of various stationary Li-ion battery, inverters and DC Fast charge system types.
Preferred Certified Commissioning Professional/Associate Commissioning Professional.
Knowledge and understanding of NEC codes
Knowledge of HVAC system
Knowledge of Fire protection system
Knowledge of Energy management system

General Job Requirements

  • Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able and willing to do overnight travel
  • Risk of electrical shock.
