This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.


Job Purpose

The Battery Materials Scientist is responsible for maintaining overall performance integrity and improving the materials used in manufacturing thermal batteries. It includes but not limited to participating in incoming raw materials selection/validation, developing and validating processes for converting them into various battery component powders, and verification of components performance. Some of the analyses techniques include Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Karl Fischer Titration and electrochemical evaluation by single cell testing. Leading root cause and corrective action analysis, troubleshooting anomalies and failure analysis investigations are an essential function of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leadership experience and ability to drive results in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to analyze materials using various test methods.
  • Understanding of the environments that impact the results of the testing.
  • Perform root cause and corrective action analysis when materials do not meet material specifications.
  • Perform process FMEA’s to mitigate any potential failure modes that might exist in the current process. 
  • Analyze current processes and evaluate the need to implement process improvements.
  • Identify additional sources of supply of raw materials as a secondary source. 
  • Serves as a technical point of contact for on projects involving electrochemistry development, testing and evaluation 

Education and/or Experience

  • Master of Science (PhD preferred) in either Chemical Engineering or related field. Bachelor’s degree with experience in battery industry will also be considered.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills are required.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English

Mathematical Skills

  • Working knowledge of engineering mathematics is required.

Reasoning Ability

  • Logical with strong root-cause problem solving ability.

Computer Skills 

  • Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project skills required. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Planning, analytical, superior communication, assertive, and ability to interact with other groups.

Other Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities, military, industry, and federal standards is a plus
