This position will be focusing primarily on our Motive Power applications, which include industrial lift trucks and pallet jacks, rail equipment, mining equipment, and airline ground support equipment. Job Purpose

The Electronic Engineer supports new product developments in the areas of reserve and motive power energy storage systems.  This position will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and will be responsible for product design and specification to meet the functional, quality, and safety requirements of board level PCB designs. The successful candidate should have experience in the design, prototyping, testing, and release of microcontroller based electronics. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Electronics Engineer filling this position will be required to demonstrate detailed and in-depth technical knowledge and expertise in the following:

  • Design analog and digital circuit boards using Altium Designer for schematic capture with a focus on interface peripherals and protection to microcontroller focused designs.
  • Provide PCB layout guidance and rules for optimal board design for given applications
  • PCB prototype testing, debug, and rework including soldering and flywire methodologies to prove functionality and provide directions on new design iterations
  • Test plan generation and execution validating electrical subsystems and PCBs
  • Analysis of test results providing actionable technical reports and proposals for design updates
  • Select appropriate board level components to meet system requirements.
  • Evaluate system requirements and decompose into applicable electronics specifications
  • Review and evaluate results of unit, component, subsystem, and system level tests
  • Consult with suppliers on test plans and results
  • Contribute to development and on-time execution of project schedules
  • Ensure all testing is performed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep of testing setups
  • Design, implement, and integrate new technologies towards automation of testing
  • Assist in the implementation of risk assessment tools such as FTA, FMEA, and HAZOPs

  • Demonstrated experience with Altium PCB layout, design, routing, DRC and PCBA packaging tools.
  • Familiar with using standard electronics testing tools including multimeters, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Exposure to designing microprocessor based PCBAs and basic peripherals including ADCs, and communication buses.
  • Experience with design modifications, including soldering components, assembly of wiring harnesses, and implementation of fixtures.
  • Possesses efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task in a cross-functional team
  • Identify and apply lessons learned to correct technical quality related issues
  • Have excellent problem solving skills and the ability to write technical documents clearly and concisely
  • Efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task in a cross-functional team
  • Experience performing electrical/electronics analysis and simulation using SPICE and scripting tools (Matlab, Python, etc). 

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS or MS in EE, Physics, Math or similar with 1-3 years’ experience in electrical engineering 
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience developing and/or testing product performance and safety to meet applicable industrial standards and government regulations
  • Experience with energy storage or renewable energy systems is desired 
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Shows enthusiasm, motivation, and ability to work with technical engineers and scientists.
