Job Purpose

The Systems Engineering Manager will be responsible for developing the growing systems engineering group with a focus on testing and automation of batteries, electronics, and software. A deep knowledge of electrical testing and data collection is required to provide optimal direction and leadership for the group to grow. Experience with managing and developing engineering competence is key to champion systems engineering core tenants such as traceability, modeling, and compliance.

The Systems Engineering Manager will directly report to the Systems Engineering Director with projects focused on next generation energy storage systems and batteries. Currently, this includes Lithium Ion battery technology in multiple markets including stationary backup power and motive logistics applications. The successful candidate will have system level testing and design experience, a successful track record of project management /execution, and a demonstrated ability to coordinate high performing teams.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians to design energy storage systems in accordance with market and regional safety/performance requirements
  • Lead the testing, evaluation, and certification strategy for energy storage systems
  • Communicate and coordinate with external 3rd parties and customers regarding required testing and verification for systems integration. 
  • Define project goals and objectives for engineers and technicians and continuously evaluate / update them during project development.
  • Coach, guide, evaluate and mentor engineers and technicians and actively participate in their career development
  • Provide updates on execution and strategy for key projects to executive leadership

Qualifications

  • BS (MS is preferred ) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar with 10+ experience (automated electrical testing a plus)
  • Experience managing engineers and technicians as direct reports
  • Experience scheduling limited lab resources for optimal testing throughput
  • Experience with developing and testing safety critical / audited products from UL
  • Experience leading and presenting to large group technical meetings
  • Experience building an engineering team and growing their technical competence
  • Knowledge of standard systems engineering concepts and application of traceability to testing required.
  • Hands on electrical testing experience including typical equipment and safety systems up to 1000Vdc / 600Vac
  • Demonstrated ability to automate/optimize testing resources and data collection/processing to support compliance and modeling efforts (eg. Python, Matlab, etc). 
  • Understanding of both hardware and software development processes and requirement decomposition.
