Job Purpose

With limited supervision, responsible for complex activities relating to test lab activities. Responsibilities include test script development, interpretation of engineering requirements in order to generate test plans and detailed test procedures focused on test equipment capabilities in the lab.  The Test Lab Engineer will work closely with other engineers within the group and other department for implementation of specifications and specific test requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide interface between lab test team and other functional disciplines for efficient dissemination of test results and information
  • Assist in the definition and implementation of detailed test specifications, verification and validation test plans, and internal processes related to test engineering for prototypes and new products
  • Design, develop, execute, and verify test software before release to production and for sustaining projects
  • Work test team to produce quality test architectural documentation, flowcharts, state diagrams, test set up schematics, and reports for projects
  • Draft and provide description and build details for custom test equipment apparatus.
  • Write test scripts in Python, C, Visual Basic, LabView or other applicable languages to automate product verification testing
  • Establish a method for recording and maintaining test parameters and results
  • Work with engineers to determine list of required off-the-shelf equipment and test software platforms
  • Assemble design prototypes for test purposes and provide feedback to design engineers
  • Communicate status, risks, issues, and recommended mitigation to test manager
  • Provide weekly status/progress updates to the Test manager
  • Attend project meetings where the test group requires representation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field
  • 5+  years’ experience with test engineering, testing, troubleshooting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with test code development methodology
  • Ability to work independently and with test teams
  • Good interpersonal skills and documentation discipline
  • Hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment
  • General knowledge of documentation and release process
  • Development experience with test communication protocols
  • Python, LabView, and C programming experience
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to operate electronic test equipment
  • Experience collaborating with department team members
  • Experience maintaining safe work practices and environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to set own priorities
  • Basic understanding of power conversion topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost, NPC, H- Bridge, resonant)
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automated test equipment, test software scripts (LabView), schematic capture (Protel)
  • Comfortable working with 'mains' electrical supply
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Thorough understanding of power electronics
  • Familiarity of regulatory requirements

General Job Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
  • Risk of electrical shock.
  • This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
