Job Purpose

The Senior Electrical Engineer position supports the enabling of new technology through commercialization of reserve and motive power energy storage systems.  This Senior Electrical Engineer will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and will be responsible for product design, test planning, and testing to meet the certification and compliance landscape for different markets. The engineer fulfilling this role will effectively participate in concurrent complex projects with a focus on achieving technical and financial objectives by working closely with other engineers and scientists to verify compliance with product requirements.  The successful candidate ideally should have working knowledge of or hands-on experience within the energy storage and power conversion space and uses systems engineering thinking to help manage complex system design.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs research and investigations in areas of systems engineering and integration of electrical and electronic components, subsystems, and systems for UL compliant designs.
  • Evaluates battery electrical systems and designs, including requirement allocation and flow down, and trade off studies
  • Applies systems engineering principles and design processes
  • Independently evaluates system requirements and decompose into applicable electrical / hardware design specifications for terminal connections, busbars, fuses, circuit breakers, contactors, and other electrical components
  • Lead subsystem design on a primary project
  • Review work products by other engineers
  • Generate and maintain simulation models of key subsystems for rapid prototyping and defining the subsystem testing required
  • Define methodologies and safety systems to be used during verification tests
  • Test plan generation and execution verifying electrical subsystems and integration with PCBs
  • Review and evaluate results of unit, component, subsystem, and system level electrical tests
  • Develops clear and concise written reports and presentations to management and peers
  • Contribute to development and on-time execution of project schedules
  • Ensure that electrical and electronic systems meet all product performance, reliability, and safety requirements.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and 5 years’ experience
  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and 2 years’ experience
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience developing and/or testing product performance and safety to meet applicable industrial standards and government regulations
  • Experience with energy storage or renewable energy systems is desired
  • Experience with design modifications, including soldering components, assembly of wiring harnesses, and implementation of fixtures.
  • Experience with testing electrical systems / batteries including standard measurement and safety equipment for voltages up to 1000Vdc / 600Vac
  • Shows enthusiasm, motivation, and ability to work with technical engineers and scientists.
  • Provides  high integrity and oversight of processes protecting intellectual property
  • Possesses efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task in a cross-functional team
  • Identify and apply lessons learned to correct technical quality related issues
  • Experience developing scripts using VBA, JavaScript, LabView, Python or similar that can be leveraged to increase productivity and reduce development time.
