Job Purpose

The Senior Engineering Manager – Lithium Development & China Operations is a senior technical leader responsible for advancing Lithium-ion technology development and providing comprehensive engineering leadership across China Operations. This role delivers end-to-end engineering oversight spanning product development, process engineering, and manufacturing execution to ensure successful design, validation, industrialization, and production of lithium-based energy solutions.
As a key contributor to the Lithium-Ion Center of Excellence (CoE), this leader drives operational clarity, strengthens cross-functional collaboration, and accelerates execution from concept through commercialization. The role plays a critical part in reducing complexity, enhancing technical rigor, and enabling scalable, high-performance lithium solutions aligned with EnerSys’ mission to deliver innovative and sustainable energy storage systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for Motive Power (MP) Lithium power module and system design, including architecture development, verification & validation (V&V), and industrialization activities.
  •  Lead engineering execution across lithium battery systems, including BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), BMS (Battery Management Systems), and PCS (Power
  • Drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM), design-for-quality (DFQ), and cost optimization initiatives across product lifecycles.
  • Provide end-to-end engineering leadership integrating product engineering, process engineering, and manufacturing engineering within China Operations.
  • Oversee design-to-manufacturing transfer, ensuring smooth scale-up from prototype to high-volume production.
  • Partner with operations to improve yield, quality, reliability, and operational efficiency in lithium production environments.
  • Support lithium cell sourcing strategies, including technical evaluation, supplier qualification, and ongoing supplier performance management.
  • Collaborate with global sourcing and quality teams to ensure technical alignment, risk mitigation, and supply continuity.
  • Coordinate Lithium-Ion CoE cross-functional activities across design, prototyping, testing, sourcing, and manufacturing teams.
  • Foster collaboration across global engineering, supply chain, and operations stakeholders to ensure technical alignment and speed to market.
  • Contribute to the evolution of engineering best practices, governance, and standards within the Lithium-Ion CoE framework.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical, or related field required).
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience in product development and system-level design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in lithium battery systems, energy storage, power electronics, or closely related technologies strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership across product engineering, process/manufacturing engineering, and operations engineering functions.
  • Strong background in supplier engineering, technical sourcing, and supplier qualification.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams within China-based manufacturing environments.
  • Experience managing design transfer to manufacturing and scaling production from development to mass production preferred.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory, safety, and quality standards applicable to lithium-ion systems.
