Job Purpose

EnerSys is seeking a Systems Engineering Testing Manager to join our team.  We are looking for an industry expert to play a leading role in the development and testing of new and exciting battery systems for the reserve and motive power applications.  The role will oversee and guide a team of engineers and technicians focused on verifying and validating battery system products and components under development.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a successful track record of project management and working with high performance teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Systems Engineering Testing Manager will be responsible for verification of component, subsystem and system functionality and specifications across multiple projects. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Lead a team of test engineers during full life cycle product development
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define test strategies in the verification of functional safety, performance, and reliability.
  • Work closely with the Systems Engineering team to create Design Verification Plans.
  • Organize test team contributions to the build of rapid prototypes and engineering models  used for product and/or model verification.
  • Support and provide feedback to design engineers for the generation and maintenance of product and component related test assemblies and fixtures
  • Document, implement, monitor, and enforce standard testing processes as defined by industrial standards or the company.
  • Track and prepare reports of test results, test case coverage, and discovered defects or faults.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party testing organizations to arrange and oversee tests that can not be facilitated internally.
  • Work with test and automation engineers to implement automation where relevant into testing processes to improve speed and efficiency.
  • Ensure timely execution of testing to meet agreed to milestones and deadlines.
  • Provide updates on DVP&R execution and strategy to executive leadership
  • Define project goals and objectives for engineers and evaluate progress.
  • Communicates frequently with team members regarding project status and identifies and resolves project problems and issues
  • Guide and provide constructive feedback to engineers to help improve team effectiveness and communication
  • Coach and mentor engineers for career development and to continually improve technical competency and relevant skill sets

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities for project engineers and technicians

  • Understanding of testing requirements and processes preferably in lithium-ion energy storage or power systems
  • Proven track record in hands-on test engineering for product and model verification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the creation of test plans and execution
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis, data processing, and report writing and review
  • Experience developing and/or supporting engineers who develop scripts using VBA, JavaScript, LabView, Python or similar
  • Shows enthusiasm, motivation, and ability to work with engineers, scientists, and technicians.
  • Ability to work independently within company plans and policies and updated them to streamline operation
  • Possesses efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task in a cross-functional team
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Possesses strong organizational skills
  • Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Experience leading and presenting to large group technical meetings
  • Experience with managing and analyzing Stakeholder requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or other relevant field with 8-10 years of experience as a team technical leader
  • Preferred 4+ years of experience of testing lithium-ion battery products
  • Preferred experience testing of high voltage, high power systems
  • Experience achieving international safety certifications for products
  • 3+ years of experience managing direct reports

Physical Demands

This position involves office and lab environment exposure including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving parts, exposure to standard industrial line voltage, high heat, or chemicals.  Physical activity is also required including climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions.
