Job Purpose

The Tax Manager role will coordinate collection of accounting and tax information between external service provider and business units for the preparation of company federal & state tax returns. This role will report to the VP Global Tax here at EnerSys.

This role is based in Reading, PA at the Corporate Headquarters. EnerSys offers in office 3 days, 2 days remote.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • First level reviewer of federal & state tax returns prepared by external service provider.
  • Coordinate collection of accounting and tax information to provide external service provider for the preparation of ASC 740 tax provision calculations and financial statement support, including first level review tax provision deliverable from external service provider.
  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax projections, estimated tax payments and extensions.
  • Accumulate and review transfer pricing support and documentation and participate in the annual transfer pricing adjustments with internal and external resources.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement in company’s tax operations.
  • Support VP Global Tax in the development and implementation of strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes, including partnering with internal customers and outside consulting firms.
  • Manage members of the tax team in the areas of sales tax, business licenses, battery taxes, and superfund excise tax to ensure compliance while seeking to minimize tax.
  • Plan for and develop overall tax return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team.
  • Maintain effective internal control procedures over all aspects of the tax process to ensure compliance with SOX guidelines.
  • Support lines of business as a business partner for tax matters including the development of new reporting lines for new line of business and integration of new acquisitions into the tax return and provision process.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
  • Review W-8’s provided as part of the foreign vendor setup process (FATCA) and provide W-8 information for EnerSys foreign subsidiaries as requested. 
  • Prepare and file Form 1042 for foreign royalty and interest payments (FDAP) paid by U.S. entities to foreign subsidiaries.
  • Assist in the filing of various state R&D credit applications.
  • Manage state charitable contribution credit program with PA for certain tax credits.
  • Reconcile state income and franchise tax accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare the domestic tax account roll forward at quarter-end for tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 principles.
  • Prepare information for the filing of 1099-NEC forms for Corporate Directors.  This includes determining the reportable amount for each Director, preparing the form information for submission to SOVOS and the IRS along with printing and mailing forms to the Directors.
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.
  • Participate in and negotiate Federal and State income tax audits.
  • Participate in other projects including integration of new acquisitions as necessary and support of M&A activities as assigned by the VP, Global Tax.
     

Qualifications

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  This role will manage 2 Direct reports which include a tax accountant and tax coordinator.

Strong knowledge of tax code, tax compliance, and procedures related to corporate tax
Knowledge of US federal, state and local tax reporting requirements

Education and/or Experience
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or related business area
Master in Taxation preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience within the tax function of a corporation or public accounting firm
CPA a plus

Computer Skills –
Exceptional computer skills using with windows applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Ability to effectively research International, Federal and State tax issues on a web-based environment
HFM, SAP, FAS
CCH

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  CPA a plus

TRAVEL REQUIRED:  minimal
