Job Purpose

 

We are now accepting applications for an Environmental Health and Safety Technician, reporting to the  Environmental Specialist.  This is group A pay and is currently for C-shift, but the shift is subject to change based on an internal posted shift change.  The complete job description is online. The EHS Technician coordinates safety and environmental initiatives. Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in water treatment, hazardous waste operations and sampling activities at the plant wastewater treatment facility. This position may involve exposure to chemicals. Coordinates the wastewater treatment operation. Ascertains compliance with all Company and Governmental regulations. Conducts water testing, analyzes results and makes required adjustments.  Responds to spills and assists in clean up.  The technician is also a first responder and may work during shut down periods. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts and records daily inspections of the bag house, ventilation points, plant dust collection systems, makes and retains required records. Recognizes and reports irregularities to the Environmental Specialist, EHS Manager, and Maintenance.
  • Reads Magnehelic gauge or other pressure drop device and observes equipment operating condition. Makes and maintains required records.
  • Analyze data and take independent action to resolve irregularities and report to Environmental Specialist and EHS Manager. 
  • Maintain required records.  Detailed list in work instructions.
  • Collects and labels all plant hazardous waste and prepares waste for shipment according to procedures and regulations
  • Performs waste and storm water sampling and assists Environmental Specialist with monthly reports.
  • Accompany state, federal and company inspectors when required. 
  • Operate equipment including, but not limited to floor cleaner, lift trucks, common hand tools, and read meters. .
  • Mix acid for delivery to production areas as needed, maintain full tanks at proper specific gravity as required.
  • Working knowledge of acid delivery system, pumps, valves, etc.
  • Understanding of sources of used acid, collection pits, pumps, valves and delivery lines to acid reclaim tans and delivery back to user areas at gravity required.
  • Clean out of lead dust from dust collector. Includes containment, packaging and shipping of lead dust and other hazardous materials as directed.
  • Move up, around, and below machinery and facilities as necessary to visually observe, monitor, inspect, and adjust.
  • Ability to accurately enter data using electronic, paper, and other means to record information.
  • Perform daily housekeeping, hygiene & cleanliness procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Two years of manufacturing, distribution center, or related work experience.  
  • High school diploma or GED is required.  
  • One year of experience operating a PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) required. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • One or more years of environmental, health, and safety experience in a manufacturing or distribution center facility. 
  • Certification or degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field. 
  • Experience inspecting, managing, or shipping/transporting hazardous waste in accordance with RCRA and DOT regulations.
