Job Purpose
We are accepting applications for a Maintenance Technician. It is currently for C-shift, but is subject to change based on an internal posted shift change. This position is not a training position and it is a skill and qualification job, so to be considered you must meet the job requirements. The job will require mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting of industrial semi-automatic and automatic equipment used in the production of lead-acid batteries. The Maintenance Technician position conducts preventative maintenance, troubleshoots and repairs electrical and mechanical components of production machinery and other process support equipment, at a competent level. This candidate can work on all of the machinery in the plant and have demonstrated skill mastery across multiple maintenance functions. This position also plays a vital role in installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, cooling, and air conditioning systems. A significant part of the role is the installation of new heating, cooling, and air conditioning systems. Troubleshoot defective HVAC systems and equipment to make diagnoses. Preform preventative maintenance by cleaning reheat coils and air handling units, and monitoring and calibrating air handling units.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Understanding of electrical systems, electronics, AC & DC controls, vacuum technology, pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical systems.
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes and power tools.
- Individual will work as an integral member of the manufacturing team, have good verbal and written skills, and be available to work extra hours.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
- Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by following stock protocols; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing order requests; verifying receipt.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Computer literate. Documents activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Performs a wide variety of general duties as necessary to maintain the reliability of plant equipment.
- Installing components such as compressors, motors, piping, and ducts.
- Connecting systems to fuel and water supply lines, air ducts, and other components.
- Testing individual components to ensure proper installation and operation.
- Routine maintenance is critical for the longevity and efficiency of HVAC systems, which includes tasks such as:
- Inspect and maintain HVAC systems to ensure they operate efficiently.
- Cleaning ducts and filters and checking for leaks.
- Refilling refrigerants, lubricating parts, and fixing drainages.
- Adjusting system controls for optimizing system performance.
- When systems break down, technician must quickly diagnose issues and make repairs, which can involve:
- Troubleshooting systems and identifying problems.
- Replacing or repairing defective parts.
- Performing emergency repairs while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Advising owners on the upkeep and when it is time for replacement.
- Keeping detailed records of work performed and parts used.
- Staying current with advances in HVAC technology and best practices.
- Required to support plant technicians when not working on HVAC equipment.

Education and/or Experience:
- A high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience as an industrial electromechanical technician.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an HVAC technician.
- Experience with PLC’s and an Industrial Maintenance degree preferred, but not required.
Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and speak English is required.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, division, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with some standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work independently in fast paced position requiring detailed compliance.

Must be able to traverse to working areas below and above floor level. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
General Job Requirements
- Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
- Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
- This position requires working in a plant/warehouse environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.
- Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds/11.5 kilos on occasions.
