This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.

 

Job Purpose

Provide expertise in developing laser welding capability and competence in a manufacturing environment.  Scope, specify, develop, and implement laser welding equipment and processes. Design and manage experiments that improve laser weld quality and repeatability achieving world-class reduction in variation. Act as manufacturing laser welding expert to drive product design improvements. Plan and improve production methods; estimate production times to meet production goals. Provide results driven technical support in all Manufacturing functions.  As a member of the EnerSys team, you will conduct business according to the details of your job description and the employee manual, with a commitment to continuous improvement and respect for people.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish improvement goals and objectives that provide world-class performance to the organization. Establish and track meaningful reports & measurements. Ensure proper execution through the use of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and metrics.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other department representatives to ensure manufacturing activities are aligned to achieve the schedule, fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, ensure on-time delivery, and meet or exceed customer requirements and business goals.
  • Develop, update, and implement operating and quality control procedures, and ensure they are met. Ensure established procedures and processes are followed. Proactively lead the manufacturing engineering team to continuously improve processes and procedures.
  • Research, develop, evaluate, and improve new and current manufacturing methods and equipment to provide world-class laser welding capability and competence.
  • Oversee and direct manufacture of products and process optimization related to laser welding and associated automation processes.  Analyze product and material flow, cycle times, and quality for process improvements.
  • Research and develop information system solutions, control systems, and testing methods to improve production data collection, provide process automation and error proofing, and enhance data reporting.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts and provide input on processes, procedures, materials, product structure and services to support innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding product structure of new and existing products to ensure proper routing and flow through production. Prepare and review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Participate in product development DFx reviews to provide manufacturing input on designs for manufacturability and assembly.  Facilitate the transition of products from product development to production.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts with the team and promote healthy, respectful communications.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  2. Minimum five years of direct manufacturing experience using laser welding or similar technologies.
  3. Minimum two years of direct experience improving weld quality and performance with laser welding equipment (Trumpf preferred)
  4. Demonstrated experience in process improvement initiatives including design of experiments (DOE).
  5. Deep understanding of Lean manufacturing, ISO quality procedures, and mechanical and electrical assembly preferred.
  6. Demonstrated proficiency with operating internal and external software systems at an advanced    level not limited to: Word, creating Excel spreadsheets, graphs and charts, SharePoint, Visio, preparing presentations and using statistical software to analyze and interpret process data.
  7. In depth knowledge and experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP) required.
  8. In depth knowledge of control systems, Bartender, electrical testing and troubleshooting, etc.
  9. Strong multi-tasking, attention to detail, written, verbal, and presentation skills required.  Ability to accurately and thoroughly document processes, procedures, and training documents.
