The Tool and Die Technician will maintain and fabricate tooling necessary for production. This includes diagnosing and repairing damaged or malfunctioning tooling both on the production line and in the shop. Cleaning and rebuilding tooling between production runs including fixtures, molds, rotary dies, and punch dies. Some production areas require the Tool and Die Technician to perform the change overs of tooling on the machines. Another important duty is fabricating/machining new or replacement parts. The technician will read and understand part/assembly drawings and use the appropriate tools and equipment to produce the part to spec. Equipment includes; vertical mills, lathes, vertical and horizontal band saws, drill press, surface grinder, MIG or TIG welders, plasma cutter, grinders, and hand drills. As well as use precision measuring equipment to verify conformance and specifications such as; dial and digital calipers, micrometers, tape measures, squares, levels etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose damaged tooling and stamping dies and determines the method to resolve the problem.
- Installs and removes dies and tooling from machinery.
- Operates various machine tools to produce new parts and perform repairs.
- Performs regularly scheduled and preventive maintenance on tooling and dies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in tool and die repair, and industrial machinery and equipment.
- Experience setting up and running machine tooling equipment with a precision mindset.
- Knowledge of shop mathematics, assembly methods, and common properties of materials.
- Competence in reading precision measuring equipment to .001" and occasionally .0001".
- Welding/fabricating experience - MIG or TIG, steel, stainless steel, aluminum.
- Effective communication skills.
- Dedication to safety and a quality directed work attitude.
- Independent, self-motivated, and able to work as a team.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to exert 25 pounds of force frequently.
- Ability to exert 50 pounds of force occasionally.
- Eyesight capable of reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring devices.
- Manual dexterity to utilize hand tools.
- Tolerance to working in a hot and noisy environment.
- Mobility to move about a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
