This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.

 

Job Purpose

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of environmental and safety programs, regulatory compliance, and industrial hygiene issues. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Management of industrial hygiene program including monitoring the usage and handling of raw materials, defining and conducting employee exposure studies (air & noise). Define personal protective equipment requirements. 
  2. Development and implementation of EHS training for plant personnel, including new hire and contractor training requirements.
  3. Manages the PPE program for each facility. 
  4. Develop & implement environmental processes, procedures & standards in compliance with local, state & federal laws & regulations.
  5. Audit, review & maintain company environmental, health, and safety programs.
  6. Interfaces with internal and external entities to secure and maintain regulatory obligations.
  7. Provides direction to company personnel in regulatory interpretation.
  8. Coordinates activities relating to hazardous waste (weekly inspections, reporting, waste characterization, profiling, and transport).
  9. Conducts inspections and audits of facility grounds, operations and material usage to ensure environmental compliance and to provide direction on environmental improvement.
  10. Coordinates environmental awareness initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, e.g. recycling, energy conservation, waste minimization, etc.
  11. Supervision of respiratory program.  Maintenance of respiratory program records and equipment as required by applicable regulations and industry standards.
  12. Investigates accidents/incidents, prepares management reports, and follows-up on recommended mitigations.
  13. Audits operating departments for safety compliance, reporting on results and citing areas where improved practices are required. 
  14. Manages the safety team committees for each facility.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in technical discipline/environmental or specialty science preferred or experience in safety management in a similar industrial setting.  ASSE or similar certification is a plus.
  2. Demonstrated communication skills to adequately train individuals and groups in safety procedures.
  3. Computer skills to maintain databases and format and produce reports.
  4. Experience in air quality, solid/hazardous waste issues.
  5. Working knowledge of federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
  6. Working knowledge of federal Occupational Safety Health Agency (OSHA) regulations.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  8. Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
