Job Purpose
Responsible for moving, preparing, managing, and loading batteries (and other inventory items) to meet company and/or customer shipment dates. Works as a critical player within a shipping team that obtains visibility of upcoming shipping requirements, schedules transportation/pick-up of orders, prepares paperwork to accompany shipment, and accurately loads orders on the day and time of pick-up. Maintains continual focus on your personal safety and the safety of your co-workers, and the quality of product shipped outside of the plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Understand and safely follow all department standard operating procedures, as either in training or certified as a Shipping Clerk
2. Prioritize the safety of our team, and the quality of our products, above everything
3. Utilize computer-based software to access and view shipping schedules/requirements
4. Work with co-workers and shipping companies to utilize (or procure) trucks/loads based upon shipping and/or inventory transfer requirements.
a. Remove completed pallets form End-of-Line (EOL), wrap, and verify weight.
b. Stage pallets for shipment or load them directly onto trailers.
c. Build complete loads following capacity limits and DOT regulations.
d. Create bill of lading (BOL) customized for each shipment.
e. Initiate inventory transfers in plant ERP and obtain proper transfer paperwork to accompany loads.
5. If necessary, utilize plant ERP(s) to order, create proper paperwork, load, and ship Sales Orders
a. Prepare appropriate paperwork prior to the arrival of trucks/load pick-up.
b. Safely identify and load pallets of batteries to the appropriate load pick-up
c. Ensure accuracy of packing slips and pallets loaded prior to shipment departure.
6. Adhere to all IATF, environmental and safety procedures.
7. Maintain a safe work area by following set cleaning and housekeeping procedures.
8. Be compliant in all safety, environment and health processes and procedures. To include but not limited to wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining, and safely storing PPE, and submitting to periodic personal testing and monitoring.
Qualifications
- Certified material handler, or the ability to become certified (must have valid driver’s license). Minimum of 2 yr experience as a material handler is preferred.
- Experience as a Shipping Clerk, or working closely with a shipping department is preferred
- Displayed ability to do basic math – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculating percentages.
- Ability to utilize computer-based programs and systems.
- Attention to detail and ability to operate without direct supervision is required.
- Displayed ability to read and write for understanding and interpreting instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to use basic computer software (Microsoft Office), online portals, and email.
- Displayed ability to differentiate colors.
- Ability to be qualified for safe and compliant use and maintenance of assigned and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). To include a fit-tested respirator, steel-toed shoes, safety eye wear and hearing protection.
- Prior manufacturing experience. Working within a fast-paced, system-controlled machine and process driven work environment is preferred.
General Job Requirements
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
- Must be able and willing to wear a respirator.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime.
- Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Risk of electrical shock.
- This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
- This position requires working in a plant/warehouse environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.
