Job Purpose

The Maintenance Lead plays a pivotal role in driving the efficiency and effectiveness of the maintenance team. This position involves overseeing the work of Maintenance Technicians, giving direction to ensure the achievement of production targets, equipment availability, efficient operations, and meeting PM and TPM goals while maintaining 5S throughout the facility. The Maintenance Lead is responsible for fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement while leading by example.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Mentorship: Leading, guiding, and mentoring Maintenance Technicians in their daily tasks, ensuring adherence to safety standards and operational procedures. Actively participating in training processes.
  • Safety and Compliance Oversight: Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with safety, environmental, and health regulations. Promoting a culture of safety and ensuring the team adheres to all safety protocols.
  • Communication and Coordination: Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and concise information exchange between maintenance team members, cross-functional teams, and management. Fosters open communication, encourages feedback, and promotes a culture of transparency and collaboration within the organization.
  • Technical Expertise and Support: Providing advanced technical support and guidance. Keep abreast of advancements in maintenance practices, policies, and technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve operations.
  • Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement: Leading troubleshooting efforts for complex maintenance issues. Encouraging and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance processes and reduce costs.
  • Strategic Planning and Scheduling: Overseeing the Total Production Maintenance program and ensuring it is adhered to and properly maintained. Efficiently manages resources and schedules to optimize team productivity and equipment uptime.
  • Decision-Making and Accountability: Exhibits strong decision-making skills with the ability to make informed and timely decisions, even under pressure. Takes ownership of decisions and their outcomes, demonstrating accountability for actions and their impact on team performance and organizational objectives.
  • Keeping personal and/or assigned equipment and tools in good working order.
  • Willing and able to work overtime and assume assignments within varied shift schedules.  Shift schedules and assignments may include working on nights, weekends and days traditionally recognized as holidays.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

This position contains supervisory responsibilities

  • High school diploma or GED/equivalent.  Advanced education preferred, such as but not limited to, a 2-year technical degree or certification.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a maintenance environment overseeing a team.
  • Proficient in Allen Bradley, programmable logic control (PLC), factory talk panel view software, and Fanuc robot controllers and servos preferred.
  • Displayed ability to perform standard maintenance tasks typically obtained through no less than five (5) years of experience as a Maintenance Technician:
    • proficient use of a voltmeter,
    • use of a meg-ohmmeter to check for shorted motors or bad electrical wiring/heaters,
    • understanding of Chillers, cooling Towers, Bag Houses and Air Handler Operations,
    • proficient use of cutting torch, stick, tig, and mig welder,
    • understand, support and work within a Preventative Maintenance system – particularly scheduling, work order, and documentation systems,
    • ability to read electrical schematics,
    • working knowledge of PLC inputs and outputs,
    • can identify faulty pneumatic valves and cylinders using schematics,
  • Working within a fast-paced, system-controlled, and process-driven work environment is preferred.
  • Displayed ability to do basic math – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculating percentages.
  • Displayed ability to read and write, understand and interpret instructions and manuals, drawings, and schematics, as well as standard operating procedures.
  • Possess or able to obtain a forklift operator license.
  • Ability to be qualified for safe and compliant use and maintenance of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  To include a fit-tested respirator, PAPR, steel-toed shoes, safety eye wear and hearing protection.

General Job Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
