Job Purpose
This position is part of the Transportation Engineering Team and is responsible for creating, releasing, and maintaining Transportation and Specialty product designs, with emphasis on product finishing, branding, packaging, bills of material, cost estimates, and engineering reference documentation. The role supports manufacturing and Applications Engineering through product design, engineering changes, data analysis, application reviews, and resolution of production-related issues. This position works cross-functionally to ensure designs meet customer, manufacturing, quality, cost, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Create and maintain detailed product, assembly, packaging, and component drawings for manufactured and purchased items.
• Develop and maintain 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
• Create and maintain product branding, labeling, and packaging designs in support of Sales and Marketing requirements.
• Create, maintain, and reconcile product bills of material across applicable ERP and product lifecycle management systems.
• Prepare cost estimates and support design-to-cost activities for new and existing products.
• Execute engineering releases and changes in accordance with established document-control and system procedures.
• Verify design outputs against approved inputs, customer specifications, and application requirements.
• Understand and comply with internal, customer, and regulatory packaging, labeling, and product-marking requirements.
• Analyze product and test data and prepare clear technical summaries, reports, and presentations.
• Support Applications Engineering with data studies, application reviews, product recommendations, and technical documentation.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing facilities for product finishing, branding, packaging, BOM, and documentation issues.
• Manage, track, and report assigned design and product-improvement projects, including schedules, risks, and deliverables.
• Define customer, application, and project requirements for new battery development projects and support new product planning, execution, and launch activities.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, and other cross functional teams to deliver timely, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions.
• Release and maintain accurate engineering reference documentation.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or a related engineering field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
• Two or more years of experience in a quality-driven manufacturing or product-engineering environment preferred.
• Experience creating and processing engineering change documentation preferred.
• Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software preferred.
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator or similar graphics software is beneficial for labeling and packaging work.
• Experience with ERP and product lifecycle management systems preferred; Windchill, Baan, or SAP experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to analyze and present technical information clearly.
• Working knowledge of engineering drawings, bills of material, design controls, document control, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills with attention to accuracy, detail, and follow-through. • Ability to interpret customer specifications and translate requirements into controlled design outputs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for professional interaction with customers, field sales, suppliers, manufacturing personnel, and company stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a cross functional team.
