This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.

 

Job Purpose

The Quality Manager has the responsibility for overseeing of the Quality Assurance (QA) program for NorthStar Battery.  The primary goal of this program is the improvement of internal and external quality.  The Quality Manager is the leader of the Quality Assurance/Inspection team and has responsibility for providing overall direction for Quality and IATF 16949 programs.  Major focus and attention will be directed to statistical evaluation as applied to a manufacturing environment and measurements, quality document development, and classroom training of employees.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. IATF - Takes the lead role in ensuring that NSB’s quality system is maintained to comply with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 requirements. Maintains and oversees the Quality Management System and corresponding manuals/documents.  Provide leadership in associated, supportive programs and develop them to comply with IATF 16949. Responsible for IATF 16949 audits, coordinating with factory leadership and corporate support functions.
  2. STAFFING – Develops and directs the quality department comprised of Quality Engineers, Line Technicians, Incoming Inspection & Calibration Technician, Product Analysis Technician, SPC Technician, Document Control Coordinator, etc. Employ skill matrix to identify gaps in knowledge and develop yearly plans for training and reducing gaps.
  3. X-MATRIX – Pursue and implement initiatives identified in the beginning of each fiscal year using the X-Matrix approach. Cascade initiatives using Objectives and Key Results (OKR) methodology with clear and measurable targets. Evaluates staff performance in relationship to the established goals and objectives.
  4. QUALITY SCORECARDS – Manage global and factory scorecards to identify gaps in performance in supplied product, process (Cpk), first pass yields (FPY), QMS metrics, etc. with robust action plans around non-conformances.
  5. SUPPLIER PERFORMANCE – Works with Purchasing and corporate Supplier Quality teams to implement a vendor performance tracking system. This system includes an objective method of evaluating and rating vendor performance levels. Support internal quality issues related to supplied components through resolution.
  6. COST OF QUALITY REPORTING– Provide accurate cost of quality information as required in Managing Daily Improvement (MDI) meetings, Gemba Walks, monthly and yearly reporting.  Monitors and tracks all associated scrap costs, rework costs, overruns, warranty, etc.
  7. CHANGE MANAGEMENT – Quality responsible to review Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Document Change Orders (DCO) and take appropriate actions to update quality systems (i.e. Infinity QS), specifications, documentation, etc. as well as ensuring risks are minimized as related to quality.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. BS in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
  2. Minimum of 8 years in a quality leadership role
  3. IATF 16949 knowledgeable
  4. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or greater
  5. Extensive manufacturing experience
  6. Experience using statistical analysis software (i.e. JMP, SQL)
  7. Extensive SPC experience in a manufacturing setting
  8. Aggressive, driven to achieve results, and a motivational leader
  9. Able to develop the staff and create a team environment
  10. Demonstrate effective utilization of computer skills i.e. word processing, spread sheet, etc.
  11. Effective oral and written communication skills
