Job Purpose
This position supports the EHS Manager in monitoring the facility and employees to ensure safe, healthy, and regulatory compliant working conditions. The person would assist in developing and maintaining an effective, proactive accident and injury prevention program. The essential duties and responsibilities include assisting with the following:

Safety Program Development & Compliance
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of OSHA-compliant safety programs, including but not limited to: Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), Lockout / Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and Forklift and Powered Industrial Truck Safety.
- Conduct routine site inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
- Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for all high-risk tasks within the facility.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA’s Lead Standard (29 CFR 1910.1025) by coordinating lead exposure monitoring, employee medical surveillance, and blood-lead level tracking.
- Monitor airborne lead levels and ensure compliance with exposure limits through ventilation assessments and engineering controls.
- Conduct respiratory fit testing and oversee the respiratory protection program.
- Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory records.
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and develop corrective/preventive action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Oversee contractor safety compliance, ensuring third-party workers adhere to company safety policies.
Occupational Health Responsibilities
- Coordinate the implementation of lead exposure control measures, including engineering controls, administrative policies, and PPE enforcement.
- Conduct noise level monitoring and coordinate annual audiometric testing programs.
- Support ventilation system evaluations and recommend improvements to maintain air quality and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as the facility point of contact for emergency response planning, and fire safety.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct Health & Safety training programs, including new hire orientation, annual refresher courses, and specialized safety topics.
- Lead toolbox talks and engages production employees in proactive safety discussions.
- Facilitate and participate in the Safety Committee, First Responder teams, and behavioral safety initiatives.
- Collaborate with supervisors and employees to promote a culture of safety through continuous improvement initiatives.
Act as a liaison between employees and management regarding Health & Safety concerns, ensuring open communication and timely resolution of issues
Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification and Associate Safety Professional (ASP) required (or ability to obtain within the first 90 days). Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is a plus
- Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) and root cause analysis methodologies
- Ability to conduct industrial hygiene assessments and interpret air sampling results
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, with preference given to those with experience in lead-acid battery production.
