This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.

 

Job Purpose

The Battery pack technician performs highly complex electrical and electromechanical assembly tasks using repetitive wiring, soldering and resistance weld operations with minimum supervision. The technician will work, and train with senior technicians and engineers to build battery packs per Quallion standard procedures.

The candidate must have electronic assembly experience with current certificate of J-STD-001F, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and soldering resistance weld experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform highly complex assembly that include wire harness assembly (crimping and soldering wires), and cable assembly (crimping and soldering wires) to an engineering drawing, BOM, manufacturing assembly procedure and traveler.
  • Perform repetitive wiring and solder operations, PCB Stuffing, Thru-hole soldering, Surface-mount soldering, and point-to-point wiring
  • Candidate must be able to read and work from complex schematics, assembly blueprints, verbal or written instructions, and diagrams; must have the ability to follow provided wiring color code with minimal supervision.
  • Must have an electronic assembly experience, strong working knowledge with hand/power tools. Must be familiar with the quality control methods to evaluate the repeatability of assembly processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Design and Mechanical Engineers, machining during prototype builds.
  • Must be able to work additional hours (including weekends) as necessary to meet the challenges of the position. 
  • Work with other areas of manufacturing to identify and resolve defects and identify and implement improvements to increase the overall quality of the product.
  • Be safety conscious at all times when performing testing or troubleshooting operations.
  • Must possess a high level of attention to detail with handling battery packs
  • Perform other duties as assigned and needed to meet customer and department expectations.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electronic assembly environment with current certificate of J-STD-001F, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620
  • Good technical writing and verbal communication skills required. Fluent in English, both written and verbal.  
  • Above average manual dexterity and visual acuity are required in order to perform delicate assembly tasks.
  • General computer knowledge and hand tools (voltmeter, drills, heat gun, wire stripper, crimping) is a plus. 
  • Solder certifications to NASA 8739, and experience with Resistance welding is a plus.
  • Experience working with and testing lithium ion batteries a plus 
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with a variety of individuals in a positive, professional manner.
  • Must be self-motivated and organized in order to plan, execute, and document work plus work with a high level of independence

Education: 

High School diploma or Associates degree in electronics. Equivalent experience may be considered. 

 

Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 30-45 pounds, requires sitting, standing, walking.

Work Environment: Manufacturing

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
  • This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime.
  • Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • This position will work in an office setting, expect minimal physical demands.
