This position will be focusing primarily on our Reserve Power applications, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Some of the reserve power brands include PowerSafe,DataSafe, and Genesis. Our extensive product range serves a variety of reserve power applications and consistently delivers the most effective, powerful and reliable batteries available.

 

Job Purpose

Design Engineer responsible for battery design and engineering analyses on batteries. The selected engineer will work with other members of the engineering department to create design solutions that meet customer requirements and company objectives.  Responsible for ensuring that product designs are fit for purpose. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • To design optimized battery systems which convert the customers specified cell type into a fully operational installation, accommodated on stands or within cubicles, with full electrical connection at least within the battery and, more probably, beyond the battery to include the electrical equipment being supported
  • Applying research to the planning, design, development, and testing of battery products.
  • Compiling and analyzing test data to determine the effect of design on products in relation to factors such as temperature, pressures, power, and energy or material properties.
  • Developing specifications for selecting components and equipment to use.
  • Utilizing computer-aided design equipment, developing basic data and making preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
  • The design of new battery accommodation and accessories, as and when new products are introduced to the marketplace, to comply with all relevant national and international standards, health and safety and contractual requirements.
  • Position may require working knowledge of thermal simulation software, such as Solidworks Simulation or Creo Simulate
Qualifications

This position may have supervisory responsibilities


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in a related engineering role
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, of statistical procedures of analysis and experimentation 
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Engineering software
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Working knowledge of ERP / MRP applications
  • Experience in product design

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Battery engineering experience is a plus
  • Experience in database control mechanisms and Quality Assurance

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • This position will work in an office setting, expect minimal physical demands.
  • Must be able and willing to do overnight travel
