Job Purpose

Provide technical environmental support to all company personnel. Monitor environmental regulations and provide technical support to location personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations/standards. Implement and monitor the company's environmental management system. Works with and maintains "confidentially" in the handling of employee and business information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following, as well as other duties as may be assigned:

 

1.    Prepares required reports to regulatory agencies (Environmental Protection Agency, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Department of Transportation, and City of Warrensburg). Maintains all related records and documentation. Interact both verbally and in writing with above listed agencies on a regular basis.
2.    Overall responsibility to assure that the ISO 14001 EMS is effectively implemented and maintained.  Acts as EMS Management Representative or designee to ISO 14001 registrar. 
3.    Responsible for air quality program activities including permitting, monitoring control devices, and identifying problems/issues with environmental protection systems. 
4.    Gather and document pertinent environmental data. 
5.    Responsible for hazardous waste management activities including registration, identification, transportation, disposal, auditing, SPCC program and training. 
6.    Supervision and direction of the hazardous waste handler. 
7.    Evaluates all new and existing pollution control equipment requirements. Develops specifications and recommends improvements and changes as required. Completes and submits environmental permits to regulatory agencies as required.
8.    Advises plant facility maintenance personnel regarding pollution control and treatment systems and assists in operations and maintenance as required.
9.    Responsible for ensuring required environmental monitoring and sampling is conducted in compliance with regulatory standards.
10.    Responsible for implementing and maintaining technical programs for skill-based employees (i.e. fall protection, Control of Hazardous Energy, Confined Space, and Hot Work). 
11.    Supports the implementation and monitoring of all other EHS programs as required.

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in safety/environmental management or similar degree and/or 3 years of relative work experience.  

Language Skills:  Fluent verbal and written skills in English. Effective interpersonal communication skills a must.

Mathematical Skills:  High level of accuracy in basic math and use of 10 key calculator.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to associate cause and affect relationships and determine patterns of activity in anticipation of change to the operation or personnel.

Computer Skills:  Must have strong intermediate Microsoft Office skills. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Visual Emission Certification, Hazardous Waste Certification, HAZWOPPER, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.  

Other Skills and Abilities:  Must be able to multi-task with attention to detail. Self-starter and takes initiative.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

Candidate will move between the office to manufacturing floor and outdoor environments-requiring attention to noise and lead exposure.  Successful candidate must be able to lift products weighing 15 lbs. to 100 lbs. on occasion.  Employee will be required to get semi-annual, or more frequent, if necessary, blood draws for required blood lead monitoring.
This position also requires periodic work after normal business hours, as well as work during scheduled plant shutdowns.
