This position will report to our EnerSys Energy Systems business, which serves the telecom, cable broadband, industrial, renewable, and data center markets. Job Purpose
As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at EnerSys, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes for lithium-ion cells. You will play a critical role in driving innovation, improving manufacturing efficiency, and ensuring that our lithium-ion cells meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and quality. This senior-level position will require a combination of deep technical expertise, leadership, and strategic project management abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Research and Development:
Lead research initiatives to identify and implement new materials, technologies, and processes to enhance lithium-ion cell performance, energy density, safety, and cost-efficiency.
Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools to innovate cell design and manufacturing strategies.
Technical Leadership:
Oversee the end-to-end design and development of lithium-ion cells, including electrochemical composition, cell architecture, and component integration.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering teams, ensuring that all designs and processes align with industry standards and company objectives.
Project Management:
Manage complex projects involving the design and testing of lithium-ion cells, including resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, while meeting performance and quality objectives.
Collaboration:
Work closely with chemists, materials scientists, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers to refine lithium-ion cell designs.
Partner with product development, manufacturing, and testing teams to direct smooth integration of new technologies into production.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Develop and implement robust quality control measures to ensure that lithium-ion cells meet or exceed regulatory standards and customer expectations.
Address and resolve production or performance-related issues in collaboration with the quality team.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing manufacturing processes, reducing costs, and improving product reliability.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve safety and environmental sustainability within the manufacturing process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent). Advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in lithium-ion cell development or advanced manufacturing.
- Proven expertise in cell chemistry, electrode design, cell assembly, and testing methodologies.
- Strong background in project management and experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., UN/DOT, IEC, ISO) related to lithium-ion cells.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
