Job Purpose

The Strategic Trade Program Specialist manages trade compliance programs that reduce duty costs, support revenue growth, and enhance supply chain competitiveness. This role leads initiatives including duty drawback, Build America Buy America (BABA), post-entry duty recovery programs, HTS classification optimization, trade agreement utilization, and CTPAT. The position works cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, customs brokers, and government agencies to identify savings opportunities, ensure compliance, and deliver measurable financial results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer and expand EnerSys's Duty Drawback Program, including coordination of drawback filings and identification of new recovery opportunities.
  • Administer the Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliance program and support product qualification efforts that enable customer sales opportunities.
  • Execute post-entry customs recovery initiatives, including the Civil Aviation Duty Exemption Program and other duty savings opportunities.
  • Identify and implement duty reduction strategies through tariff classification reviews, country of origin determinations, and utilization of applicable free trade agreements.
  • Analyze trade, duty, and shipment data to identify cost savings opportunities, compliance risks, and process improvements.
  • Monitor trade regulatory developments and communicate business impacts and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Support administration of EnerSys's CTPAT program and related supply chain security initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners and external service providers to achieve compliance and cost savings objectives.
  • Develop reports, metrics, and business cases that demonstrate compliance performance and financial savings generated through trade programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, Logistics, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance, customs, import/export operations, international trade, or a related field.
  • Experience interpreting and applying customs regulations, trade programs, and government compliance requirements.
  • Experience analyzing data and identifying cost savings, recovery opportunities, or process improvements.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) designation.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) certification or equivalent trade compliance certification.
  • Experience with duty drawback, Build America, Buy America (BABA), free trade agreements, CTPAT, customs recovery programs, or related trade initiatives.
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and third-party trade service providers.

  • Knowledge of import/export regulations, customs requirements, tariff classification, valuation principles, and country of origin rules.
  • Effectively partners with Legal, Logistics, Operations, Procurement, Finance, and external service providers to achieve compliance objectives and influence decisions without direct authority.
  • Communicates complex trade compliance risks, regulatory developments, and strategic recommendations clearly and concisely to business leaders and executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and sound judgment when evaluating compliance risks and trade savings opportunities.
  • Applies a continuous improvement mindset to identify efficiencies, process enhancements, and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen by balancing compliance requirements with operational efficiency and cost-saving objectives.
